LG Flatron L194WT inverter board; light flicker

    Hello everyone,

Here I have the board only from a an LG Flatron L194WT. When a friend gave this to me because it was playing up and I didn't have time to fix it nor did I want it taking up space, so I just took the inverter board and tossed it out. So, for a learning experience I'd like to fix it.

Tied BL_ON high to 5V rail. Hook it up to known good CCFLs. CCFL light flickers and slightly fainted. Capacitors are SAMXON, no bulging evident but not always have to bulging. Voltage rails are all good.

I know I can test component, but I don't want to start testing at random. Where to start trouble shooting?

    Thanks everyone.

Post good clear pictures of the board, both sides, will be a good start.

You may need another jumper resistor from 5v to dim (if there is a dim pin)

Test the secondary windings (Ohms 2000 range) on the inverter transformer/s
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Ok, here's the photos. I don't know if it's the lighting or what, had so much trouble getting focussed images. Probably because I'm using a Nikon, I much prefer the Canons... Anyway, that's another story.

Ok, so there is a DIM line. Question is is it active high or active low? Pulling it high seems to me it will make it dim out? No?

Dim is not a digital signal, you have minimum brightness at 1,5v for example (i don't remember) and maximum at 3v so test which voltage you have with the resistor to 5v. Anyway i see there are output values printed near output connector, test those and compare to what's printed.

I picked up this TV that the prior owner said - just died.

Tested the fuse - burnt. A dead capacitor is visible too on the hot side (CP801). Got the replacement power board (cheaply - used). Replaced the board - the TV turned ON!

Now, about a month later (yesterday) I noticed the left side of the screen was flickering from time to time. That was already happening with the antenna input, not through HDMI.

Also, some glitchiness with a Fire stick on HDMI3 - I hit an app with quick dark screen in stick, the TV goes - no input. Then I had to choose the stick...

                Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...

                • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault
