    Dell E172 Power board

I did a search on here and found several threads regarding this power board. However none of them seemed to be the problem I am having. I know it has to do with the HIGH power side. See attached photo of board.

The area that is circled in red is the problem area. Right now I have the line side of both transformers connected. The load side of the top transformer is not connected. If I connect both load sides of both transformers, it shorts out the two transistors located just beneath the two transformers.

The bottom side has no problems, except for the fact that when powered on the CCFL will only light for about 3 to 5 seconds then turn off.

I have built a CCFL tester and have tested all 4 lamps in the monitor and they all function well. I also tested the output of the power board and it is ok during that short period when it is on.

I have went through and checked the diodes, the resistors, the FET's, the caps, and can not find anything else that could be causing the problem. I even on a hunch just replaced a bunch of the components.

There has to be something that commons the two transformers, that causes the higher load on the transistors which causes them to fail. But I am right now at a loss.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

When the transistors in question short out, it causes the power light to flash.

    Thanks for looking.

If you haven't already, resolder all 4 inverter transformers. Bad transformer soldering is the root cause of the transistor failures and until the bad soldering is fixed the replacement transistors will fail very quickly.

I second that on ratdude comment, also check the PF781 3A black fuse by the cap, make sure the resistance is less tahn 1 Ohm, this fuse when it is bad will have about 3~5 Ohms resistance. Also check the 4 yellow tuning caps by the 4 transistors, make sure hey do not have resistance leakage and corect value, if these caps are bad the Royer Oscillators for this inverter driver transistors will burn up.

Have you tested the secondary wiring resistance on both inverter transformers.
        What transistors are you using?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

          Hello,

I'm Working on replacing an Inductor on this Dell's board and I need to come up with a compatible replacement. As much as I would like to smash a comparable 2R2 in the same spot I'd like to confirm the specs before confirming a killed board. For my purposes I'd be happy with a second opinion on the replacement inductor or the actual schematics/board view. As this is a commonly used Dell Rugged in my local service area, schematics would greatly help in the future.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can render.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
          by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...
