I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:
Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.
The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type YRDD6, 11.4V and original Dell 65W power supply PA-12, model: LA65NS2-01. At pin 4 ( PS_ID_R) of the DCIN connector are 3.3V present. Normally it should be okay. Since there is a lot of discussion in the forums about the Dell power supply recognition problem, I ordered a new power supply first. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't the power supply unit. In fact, it was the best decision because it worked with the new power supply unit. However, with the new power supply I also have 3.3V on pin 4 of the DCIN connector . Can someone explain to me how the Dell power supply detection works? How can the signal be measured?
Thanks to the Tech community
