Replace the rest of the electrolytic caps with name brand, low ESR caps such as Panasonic FR, FM, or FC. Resolder all the transformers.

        1) What is that "crud" on cap C702?

        2) With power off and lcd unplugged, measure across the secondary inverter transformer pins with your multimeter set on 2000 ohms.

The pins on the backside will be the ones "leading to" yellow high voltage capacitors. You should get a reading the 250 to 800 ohm range as a guess.

Measure all 4 and report the findings.

Normally, I would mark it up on supplied picture, but I'm having a bit of a difficult time mapping it spatially (maybe because I had to get up at 4:40am this morning).

That sounds about right for a Benq style board.

If the caps tests okay and the inverter transformer are okay, that leaves the ccfls or its wiring as possible suspects.

I am unsure why no one has recommended checking the 5707 transistors. On this monitor They can fail and not take the inverter fuse out. If one or more are bad there is a good chance you can find it by hooking up one CCFL at a time and then powering on the monitor. Those particular CCFL connectors will not even briefly light the CCFL.

                                Love that Peak 55 tester.

My stock of ebay special 5707s measure 365-373
A few non-shorted 5707s that I removed from monitors (I tend to replace 'em all, I figure the ones that don't fail are often stressed) are 298-330.
36 Monitors, 3 TVs, 4 Laptops, 1 motherboard, 1 Printer, 1 iMac, 2 hard drive docks and one IP Phone repaired so far....

Yes it is a lot funner, and usually less expensive.

You also needed to check the 2 FET's located at Q812 and Q805. I fixed a similar board earlier today, and one of the FU9024N FET's was shorted. Hopefully your repair kit includes those.

I ended up having to replace a shorted C5707, a shorted FU9024N, and the fuse at PF801 was blown also.

Yes the 2 fet are included in the kit ! nothing is shorted there but the transistor have a low Hfe value that can be my trouble i wil replace all 6 component to be safe.

                                          Hi,

Could someone help trying to unlock this BIOS, seems that Dell have changed the layout of new Dell Pro 8FC8 bioses from checking HXD - 4000 bits do not need changing, only 2000. However after FF the section starting from '01000' upto 2000 bits and then soldering the chip back it seems that the microchip on the motherboard is recovering the bios back to original settings after first boot. Has anyone found a way to crack this extra layer of security Dell have implemented? Seems both HP and Dell have upped bios security to match Lenovo by implementing extra measures on a separate...

I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

                                          Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

                                          The power/battery...

I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.
