Double Din Car Headunit Brand Unknown

Not something I have ever attempted before, but knowing I dabble with TVs, a friend of mine asked me to have a look at this for him.

I dont know what brand it is, think its just some cheap chinese generic rubbish

Someone has apparently bought it brand new, wired it up wrong somehow, blew fuse on unit, fuse in car, amd said it smoked slightly and could smell it.

Replaced fuse, but no signs of life, is there anything I can do or is it just fit for the scrap?

Wouldnt know where to start personally so any help grately appreciated.

have you removed the pcb and checked if there is any trace damage on the underside of the pcb

Seems to be a Xtrons pb86mtvap, There is a diode D2? near the fuse, have you checked it? Check the resistance between ground and power input.

On with that now m8, I think the diode is goosed, am I best off taking it out of the board to test incase pf false positives?

Many times they use a diode across the 14 volt input for protection, If you supply reversed voltage, the diode conducts and blows the fuse, or in some cases the fuse will also short. You may get lucky and it's only a shorted diode.

Good to here its working, make sure you replaced the diode for continued protection.

Yeah replaced it with an exact match as my friend who it belongs to had a spare unit with a broken screen, so took it out of that.
