wow wow wow.. what happened here.. guys, no beef, please!

I just wanted to share with you my headache with that obsessed amplifier... and since that's a pretty common amp design I was hoping that someone has already seen that gremlin and knew how to fight it

In the next days I will provide more accurate data about what blew and whats ok... now I'm noting down things to check.

by the way, could a transistor be faulty, but still giving good resistance reading on the multimeter?

yes a transistor can behave like that .

Your meter does not put out the operating Voltage that the Transistors are subjected to so it will not be 100% accurate.

If the current from R606 and R608 did follow the blue path on its way to the voltage amplifier transistor(TR828), a large voltage difference would develop between the bases of the driver transistors(TR532,TR534), turning on the output transistors hard which would then pass destructive rail to rail current.
TR528 with its associated components, functions as a voltage clamp. It passes most of the current from R606 and R608, holding the voltage between its Collector and Emitter at about 2V.
This voltage difference is shared between the 4 Base Emitter junctions of the driver and out transistors causing them to slightly turn on, passing just a few milliamps from rail to rail. This is called "Idle Current"

                Re: It just keeps blowing...

Finally found some time to put the denon apart.
I measured the main amp pcb and here are the results.
I'm really surprised that there are that few blown parts:
                TR536
                TR538
                R620

The emitter resistors gave good readings ( and almost the same as those of the working channels ), but still they are going to the trashbin.

The VR504 pot shows 0-4.2K which I think is OK ( still wondering why it should be set to max before powering up the amp for first time... I don't believe that denon or any other company makes amps that blow when the pot is turned to min ).

I do not like the readings of TR528, but seem to be the same as on the other channels... still, most likely I'm replacing it.

Now I'm starting with the pre-stage part of the amp on the other pcb.

                  Re: It just keeps blowing...

The other board looks good - no shorted resistors or transistors. I have already bought 2sc2705 + 2x sa970, so probably I'm changing them.
I also checked the traces continuity between the components and everything on the main pcb seems to be fine.

By the way is it safe to power up the unit with replaced r620, but without the main transistors?

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                    by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                    by spleenharvester
                    Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Denon AVR 1908, High pitch noise on Surround back Left channel after long overhaul
                    by karatzdi
                    Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

[Marantz SR5012] Center channel keeps going into ASO/Overcurrent protection.
                    by acedogblast
First off I would like to thank this community as it has provided me with great information that has helped me greatly on my repair for this Marantz SR5012 AV receiver. I am creating this new thread as the other 2 that I have created here has had their original question/problem solved and I plan that this is the final thread on my repair. Please note that this is my first time repairing audio amplifiers so I may not be aware of common issues and things to know.

Lets start at what I have done so far. Random speaker popping on all channels is fixed by replacing the 2 large filter...

                    Hi Guys
I have a customer who has two Hitachi TVs in his bar, one is the model in the thread title and the other is a larger screen but has the same setup menu

He also has an LG TV, so three screens in the bar

                    I installed three Satlink ST-6503 DVB-T Modulators

These connect to three satellite receivers via HDMI cables and then connect to a 4 way RF Amp that connects to the TVs on aerial cable. There is no incoming terrestrial antenna. I set the channel ID on the modulators to...
