Disaster! The breaker for my room tripped and the "Magic Smoke" was released on the center channel. It happened when I turned the volume up. Worse yet both output driver transistors Q428 and Q434 now have shorts on collector to emitter but to base they are fine.

Emitter resistors for both Q428 and Q434 measure fine at 0.5 ohms.

hope you wasn't running it with a load without output transistors .

Rather, you bought Q428 and Q434 - a fake. Now it's hard to find original transistors.

All of the parts I have bough are from either Digi-key or Mouser. So I don't think that they are fake. Either way I have decided to give up repairing the center channel. I now plan to disable the center channel on the amp board and use external amplification for the center channel since this AV receiver has preouts. Thanks for all of your help.

Marantz pm 6005 right channel not worknig
                by sima112
                Hi guys,
I need a help with my Marantz pm6005. It started to have weaker the right channel a few months ago, than it got back to normal and now it has lost sound completely on the right channel. At the final stage it was loosing the channel for a while and than it returned. After it has disappeared completely I could forced it back by unplugging the source form CD (which I normally use) to phone and back. It would then work for a few minutes and died again. Now it is possible power up and all function works normally (apart the right channel ) on all inputs, except the phone both channel...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                by spleenharvester
                Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

7 channel NAD receiver,Need help identifying a suitable cap replacement
                by fytonv
My 7 channel NAD receiver has audio quality and volume issues on 2 of the channels. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they're at about half the dB level of the left channels, and then they cut out entirely. Powering off and on the receiver fixes it for a bit.

Without much experience to really know for certain, they only apparent issue I can see is with these electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. Bulging = bad, correct? I'm looking for replacements but I'm unsure what leeway I have with the temp ratings. Are there any other specifications I need to worry...

Running out of Ideas, hoping someone smart can provide some for my ONKYO TX-SR353 Receiver
                by CDNBrewer
                Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

                Symptoms:
                • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
                • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
                • I swapped the Left and Right surround
                ...
