Denon AVR-X4000 – Fast red blinking after 2nd relay

    Hi everyone,

I’m working on a Denon AVR-X4000 that goes into protection mode (fast red blinking LED) shortly after the second relay click.

According to the service manual, a fast red blinking LED indicates a DC detection (DC_DET) or ASO (abnormal current) fault, meaning the unit is detecting a potentially dangerous condition on the power amp or power supply side.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:
    • Fully opened and cleaned the unit (a lot of dust inside)
    • Removed and visually inspected the AMP board → nothing visibly damaged or burned
    • Testing is done with nothing connected (no speakers, no HDMI, etc.)
    • Only once it powered up normally and worked for around 5 minutes, then went back into protection
    • I tried disconnecting the BN704 connector (carries DC_DET, ASO_DET, THERMAL signals from the AMP board) to test if the AMP board was responsible
→ But I’m not sure whether disconnecting BN704 might itself trigger protection, or if it actually isolates the AMP correctly

I’m attaching a short video of the behavior :

    https://youtu.be/lzmcI9jLVPY

and also the full service manual in case anyone wants to check the schematics or pinouts

Any ideas are welcome — thanks in advance!

Look hard on all the connectors on the PA board (with the big heat sink) and check every connector. Maybe it is simple as a wire pulled out of a connector or a bad solder joint.

Hi, already checked the PA board and looks fine and i've disconnected bn704 and it's still doing the red light so i think that the PA Board isn't the issue but not sure
here is a few pics :

edit : i've removed the whole PA Board from the denon and it's still doing that so i don't think the PA Board is the issue lol

        okay so small edit, after i unplugged the whole amp board didn't see but it blink red but slower this time sooo i'm lost rn ;-;

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAoLvnDXHI8

2nd edit : i tried to start it after that i've recorded that video, after a few minute plugged in with the red blinking light, i had the power amp disconnected and it worked for a brief amount of time like 10s until a 3rd click happend sooo i'm pretty sure it's either the PSU board or the main board

Why would you start the amp without the PA? The blinking light means you got trouble with the PA. Either it has a short / over current condition, or there is an open or not fed power somewhere on that board.
Download the Service Manual and go through the troubleshooting steps. Start with all the little power supplies and make sure they all there and working to spec.

the issue can be the PA but it can be the PSU board too or the main board no specially the PA from what i've read, i've checked the transistor with a multimeter and it seem fine, and i've tested some small resistor seems okay too giving the right amount

              9V relay temperature 40C
              by jm1234
Hi, I'm seeing one 9V relay having temperature 40C on its 9V (primary) side. Does that seem right? I switched 2 relays on that board and the temperature was the same (on the same position), so I'm sure it's not a faulty relay. I measured voltage on that relay and it was 9.5V DC, so that looks good. I don't see any other relay on that board having that kind of temperature and they have 9V on them too.
I thought maybe the transistor that is switching this relay keeps switching on/off, so I also checked for AC and there was almost none: 0.3V using mV range. No steady frequency was shown, but...

Biomass Boiler not driving cleaner motor relay. ENERTRES BIOMASA BI-650
              by edugimeno
              Hi everyone!
I have this board that suddenly stopped supplying power to an output that drives an interchanger cleaner motor.
I checked while the board was in place with all wires attached and there's no AC voltage on the corresponding plug X5
This X5 is driven by fuse F8 (tested OK) which comes from the second orange relay
To make sure there are no charcoaled contacts inside the relay, I got a 24VDC power supply and got it ready to manually power up the coil side of these relays.
I respected the polarity, positive to cathode of protecting diode
              So provided all...

Mitsubishi CNC switching power supply board dead / relay board bad diode failure
              by sam_sam_sam
I was working on this CNC machine today found no keyboard functioning no control relay powering on
The screen powered on and was giving an operation error but the manual was not very clear about what the error exactly was but with a little bit of troubleshooting and finding out that the control relays not powering on and no keyboard functions we narrowed down to this one switching power supply which of course does not have any indicator LED light they are on the keyboard interface/relay controller board

Found shorted diodes on main controller relays there are 3 of them that...

HP Power Supply 6632A: Fast Mode vs Normal Mode?
              by cook
              FAST MODE vs NORMAL MODE

I have recently acquired a HP 6632A DC power supply. I am just beginning to use it and I have been reading the manuals for it. It is the first power supply I have ever owned or used. I am a very beginner hobbyist and do not have an engineering background, as may be obvious by my question...

I can't seem to understand what the actual use is for the 'Fast Mode' or the 'Normal Mode' on the power supply. Although the manual states what the two modes do from a engineering/technical standpoint, I don't know enough to understand what it all means,...

Panasonic TH-50PX8EA Black screen, only relay clicks
              by Rensiee
              Hello,
I have been reading a few threads on here regarding Panasonic plasma tv's. I've found one thread which explains the same problem as mine, unfortunately the thread has not been completed.
I got a free tv (TH-50PX8EA) from a friend which shows no screen. When plugged in only one red light shows up and when pushing the ON button, the red LED turns of and will only turn on again when pressing the ON button again.

When plugging in the TV i hear two relays click fast and after a few seconds the third relay clicks.
I have measured the voltage in the VSUS line, which...
