Re: Pioneer VSX-1022-K won't turn on

I have a VSX-D2011. Hard switch turns on the standby LED for just a couple of seconds. Sometimes longer about 2 minutes. During those time that the standby light is on I can switch on the receiver with all displays normal and relays click normally. Did diagnostics as per SM and everything passed, and suddenly turns itself off again. have to wait couple of minutes before I can get a standby light again. Suspected capacitor. Any suggestion where to look first? Primary Board? Regulator Board? or Controller. Thanks

    Re: Pioneer VSX-1022K won't turn on(VSX-1122K)

I have picked up a VSX-1122k with the same symptoms.
The standby board looks completely different, most likely has a switching power supply.
It's marked primary, I measure 164V at the main capacitor.
The relay, doesn't click at all. I will remove it and I will apply voltage to it.
I don't have a SM for this receiver, I don't know how to hard reset it.
Soft reset, seems to be Enter+Stndy/On. Seen it on Youtube. This reset or any other combination, did not do anything.

So it has to be able to handle high in-rush current when the power transformer and the large filter caps are charged up when power is applied. I am sure there are lots of these units out there with the same problem. They will have to use two relays, one to supply the power to the in-rush current limiter and another relay to bypass the limiter like what they do on better built TVs.

    Yes, it's the standby relay.

It looks like it has contact resistance which caused the heat built up that finally destroy the relay contacts. I do not know how much in-rush current this relay contacts are exposted. Is this the standby relay that supplies the power to the main power transformer?

Can you guys believe that a 2012 model receiver has a rusted relay in it? The relay, it's a sealed relay also.

It's all working great!! I can't believe that we managed to fix this one. We were ready to give up.
Thank you very much rievax_60, for all your help and patience!
Possibly I will give another try on one of these or similar model, to see if this is a common problem with these receivers. Denon should have the same problem, since this relay it was a Denon part number.
Now, I need to go back to replace those parts in that Yamaha receiver and hopefully it won't blow up again.

Not sure what I have done, but now I have sound on all the channels.
Most likely I have an 8 Ohm speaker and I didn't have the volume high enough.
Only around 40 I could hear some sound.
This is good news so far.
I will have to try with a TV. With a monitor, I didn't have success. HDMI input it was showing that it goes into power saving mode.

I can hear the second click and I can change the speaker settings too, from A to B and a third option(I don't remember which right now).
I can't seem to get into settings. I can switch sources, it seems like it's reading the USB drive, I can tune to different radio stations, but I can't hear any sound.
I'm keep thinking, that maybe I forgot to connect something back, but I don't see anything wrong.
I guess, I should check some voltages, the 12V going to the HDMI board and some voltages at the amp. Not sure which one though. The receiver is fully assembled though.

There should be a second click of the speaker relays pulling in about 5 seconds after the receiver turning on. If there is any serious fault, the receiver should be reporting it in the display.

Re: Pioneer VSX-1022-K won't turn on

That was a simple fix, bad contact at the batteries.
There is still a problem with the receiver. I don't know what, but I suspect other relays may not turn on.
I can't get any sound or HDMI video out of the receiver. Amp feels cold at touch.

I have "played" a little bit with it today and I have realized that the remote it's not working. It looks brand new and when I look at the IR LED with a camera, the IR LED doesn't show any life.
Another remote on Ebay, it's almost $40.
An IR LED can be checked as a normal LED? It should light up and I should be able to see it through a camera?

    I have received the relay.
Installed it, had to do a reset, but after that it turned on!!!
It's still not fully put together and it shows demo mode on the display with HDMI blinking.
I will have to look at it much better after Christmas, but at least shows some life.
Every time that I turn it on, it turns on and I can hear the relay click.
I will have to figure out, what's up with that demo mode.
I'm wondering about these receivers, that are sold broken. All of them may have the same problem if they don't turn on?
Most likely, Denon has to have the same issues, if this relay is sold as Denon part.
I may give it a try to another unit, to see if it has the same issue.
I will let you know about the outcome.
Thank you for all of your help.
    Have a Merry Christmas!

Check out how it looks the relay inside.
First picture is the little contact that is pulled in by the coil.
That rough step was touching the coil.

The CPU_ST_VCC rail is being heavily loaded at the same time the relay is supposed to be on. We will see what happens when the new relay is fitted.

Harman Kardon AVR 171S - standby led lights up, does not turn on
    by madsox
    Greetings!

Thank you in advance for your understanding, I am writing to you through a translator.

A Harman Kardon AVR171S amplifier was given.

The history of the machine is as follows:
It was faulty when I bought it, I want to fix it.
I replaced the HDMI switch and one of the DAC ICs in it.
After that it worked without a problem.

I watched a movie using the amplifier, and at the end the amplifier got really hot.
The cooling was faulty, I will fix this later.
I switched it to standby mode, waited for...

    Pioneer VSX-44 receiver HDMI dropouts
    by RatherLoopy
I have an older Pioneer receiver (VSX-44) that's been dropping the HDMI output (black screen) for a few seconds every few minutes. Setup is HTPC -> Pioneer DVD HCMI in -> Pioneer HDMI out -> Samsung TV HDMI in, all with cheap HDMI cables that have never caused trouble before..

I initially found a lot of play in the receiver's HDMI inputs and output so I kind of squeezed them back into shape and they're making a tighter connection, but the problem persists.

And also, often, the HDMI will drop out in exactly the same way (black screen) just as my central air...

Samsung LN32B540 - won’t turn on but gets standby power
    by Doodle43
My Samsung LN32B540 never turned back on after I had to turn off the power at the mains at house. It won't turn on, but the red standby led lights up when it is plugged in. If I hold down the power on the remote, the standby light turns off which I think means it is trying to turn on, but there's no sound or backlight. If I try to turn it on/off from the power button on the TV instead, it doesn't do anything at all.

It was plugged into a surge suppressor and was off (on standby) when I turned off the power,, so I don't know if it got a power surge or was on its way out anyway. I...
