• Re: Panasonic FR a good replacement for ultra low ESR cap?

Is it ok if there’s only 1-2mm clearance from the top of the cap to the back housing of the TV? The replacement cap I’m considering is 25mm tall, while the space between the board to the housing is maybe 27mm.

I don’t want to install it horizontally as the only space would be real close to the heatsink. Should I install it tilted at an angle, like some of the smaller ones? Or is that 1-2mm clearance good enough?

What about ripple current? All the caps I’ve looked at seem to have a lower ripple current than the original one (assuming it is the 3,000 mArms). If I went with a 35v it would have a higher ripple current closer to the original. Should I stick with the 25v even if ripple current is lower?

I don’t know if it’s the switching power supply section. I don’t actually know much about electronics but figure I should be able to learn to solder for one capacitor. It’s located on the top right of the power board in this picture. The reason I’m looking at that FR series is because it’s the lowest impedance I could find and I’m trying to find something to match that NXE series.

Also, I haven’t measured the dimensions but assuming that the NXE capacitor...

  • Panasonic FR a good replacement for ultra low ESR cap?

I already posted this in the TV forum but would like a few more opinions before I replace the cap (never done this before). I need to replace a bulging 1200uf 25v cap in my TV. It's a Sam Young NXE. I don't have any other specs for it, although I believe this data sheet gives some info. It appears to be ultra low ESR. I've been looking at Panasonic FR. Would this be a good replacement? Or something else?

  • Re: Which capacitor to buy as a replacement

So the impedance and ripple current don't really matter? The old Sam Young capacitor seems to be advertised as ultra low ESR which is why I ask....

  • Which capacitor to buy as a replacement

I need to replace a 1200uf 25v Sam Young NXE capacitor for my Samsung TV. I know that I can get a capacitor with a higher voltage, but I feel like I should just try to find a replacement with as close to the original specs as possible. I’m looking to get a better manufacturer like Panasonic.

My question is, how important is it to match the ESR, impedance, and ripple current? Because I don’t know these values for the original one. I found this chart which might help. https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/77ec2c2cf378ea623fab203307201ded.pdf

Is it possible the others have dried up as well and I'll need to replace those? Or just the visibly swollen one?...

  • Samsung LN32B540 - won’t turn on but gets standby power

My Samsung LN32B540 never turned back on after I had to turn off the power at the mains at house. It won't turn on, but the red standby led lights up when it is plugged in. If I hold down the power on the remote, the standby light turns off which I think means it is trying to turn on, but there's no sound or backlight. If I try to turn it on/off from the power button on the TV instead, it doesn't do anything at all.

It was plugged into a surge suppressor and was off (on standby) when I turned off the power,, so I don't know if it got a power surge or was on its way out anyway. I...
