SG - what does it stand for?

I found some metal components inside glass, labeled "SG" on PCB from old display, what's that?

Another interesting component labeled PTCU. There are two coin-like pieces of metal inside...

There are two of them in any StarFleet Attack Runabouts.

Malmal's answer is funny, but not quite correct, electronically speaking. The component you have is a positive temperature coefficient resistor/thermistor unit, and these are used for current limiting tasks.

            I liked malmal's answer better...

              lol
it's called a ptc, it's used to power the degausing coil for a few seconds at power up.
after a few seconds the thing is so hot that the resistance increases & cuts power to the coil.

heres a tip - they do fail.
if you desolder one and it rattles - it's fucked.

It's supposed to have a cover.

Sometimes, spark gaps (SG) are called air gaps (AG).
Some may exist as exposed PCB traces.
