Spent ten years working my way thru a company called FireSystems.
Was on the drafting table, building the systems and lots of field troubleshooting.
The only panels with obvious heat failure,
were installed thru out King Kalib's military city.
The specs called for systems to be placed on the outside walls of each building.
The sun came up in the desert, the panels popped like pop corn, and we sold them new ones, but installed with air conditioning.
The other devices I noticed that did have a high failure rate were the RCA closed circuit pan tilt cameras I had put all over the IBM headquarters building. That was badcaps certainly, but 20 years ago I wouldn't have paid attention to that.
We were dealing Pyrotronics, Edwards and Fenwall halon systems.
No one I knew of had anything to say about capacitors specifically causing a fire panel to fail.Jim -

Our smoke alarms always seem to go awry after a couple of years... either by not working or going off at 1AM for no reason
Tried cleaning them & new batteries but nothing ... Never tried opening them (couldn't figure out how)
I do remember somewhere someone recalling some because of some issue with the PCB and the tracks were degrading..

I should have done a search for this because I have just posted about this very thing.
These are my smoke alarm caps:
Thankfully the alarm started beeping with its low charge warning but I was still surprised to find bad caps in something so important that lives could depend on them.
There are 5 in each unit on their own seperate PCB. I am in UK so using 230volts. If anyone could help identify them I would be very grateful.

That M symbol is Matsushita/Panasonic.
Good brand.
Probably died (if they even are bad) due to power surge or bad design.
You aren't showing the side with the series marking. (Or it's too light to read.)
It's usually two letters on those.Mann-Made Global Warming.

There are no other markings. I've shown all that there is. I wonder if this is so that they can't be replaced or tampered with by unauthorised people.
I think it will probably be safer just to replace the alarm. The capacitor ones aren't cheap though.

I've actually replaced the alarm now. It was 9 years old and it seems it was due for renewal anyway. I didn't realise these things had a life expectancy and I suspect there are thousands of other people out there who don't know either.Originally posted by linuxguru

I bought an Alpicool C20 fridge, which is a 60W compressor fridge that runs on 12V or 24V, which can come from either an AC/DC adapter from mains (240V here in UK) or a car battery. The fridge itself is really good quality, so I was surprised to find the power supply (DC14.5V, 4.1A) pretty questionable.
