    Sony Bluray Player problem

So I have this smart bluray player that when a disc is loaded says "no disc" however if I keep ejecting and loading real quick it'll eventually read the disc and play fine, no skipping, freezing etc.

If the disc is removed and another loaded it's always a gamble if it'll read it initially. Most times I have to keep quickly pressing eject to get it to load.

I tried cleaning the lens, there aren't any pots on it to try adjusting the power.

What I'm curious about though is if it's a weak laser issue if sometimes it does detect a disc and play flawlessly. Wouldn't a weak laser have trouble reading all the time?

then it's not the laser, because there are different lasers for each disc type in the assembly.

have you opened it to do a visual check?

I have nothing looks out of the ordinary and I tried moving the lens forward, back etc to see if it alters the operation. But it didn't do anything.

          Any ideas?

Hmm I wonder. I have noticed that if it has been playing a disc, if I change it it'll read it almost first time every time. But if it hasn't been used, it gives the no disc error.

maybe a slightly worn/sticking motor that spins the disk up to speed?

I think the way this one works is the motor spins after laser detects a disc. It's the same laser in the slim ps3s

I've also noticed the lens shifts a quick three movements/jerks before it says no disc, when it works it either doesn't shift or shifts one or two times before disc spins up and loads

It's just strange that once it loads a disc, and has been playing for a good 20 min it'll easily detect another one until the unit has been turned off for a while then it's constant "no disc"

hmm that sounds like a bad solder joint issue. it doesnt work when its cool cuz the solder contracts and doesnt make contact. then when it heats up the solder expands and contact is restored. could also be badcaps in the psu of the player, mainboard or bluray drive.

There are two smd electrolytic caps that provide 12v and 5v to the motor and lens, I replaced them out of curiosity and no change in operation.

Caps on PSU all look good, no esr meter to know for sure though.

Could check if it's temp related by hosing it down with a hair dryer. Don't the lasers in the ps3's fail quite a bit ?

Maybe the heat thing was a fluke, tried it this morning after itd been unplugged all night. Read disc first attempt, then nothing for a while after that.

If it's the laser, just don't understand why it'd work randomly and read six perfectly until it's removed.

the laser in the ps3 is pretty reliable, they just dont like being dropped or banged around - it makes the optics come loose.

I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

                                          Hello,

I have a Sony DVD player with a stuck tray. It seems that moving or pressing on the tray makes it work.

                                          Good Afternoon fellas,

                                          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
                                          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
                                          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
                                          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

                                          Question:
                                          I...
