With the 750watt one I have (got for $1 at a garage sale) it will run without a battery but just won't provide anything beyond surge protection as expected. It also won't shutup with incessant beeping without a battery either unless configured to not do so using the 10pin data cable. Thankfully batteries are relatively cheap in comparison to a whole unit.

"all apc i know of must have a battery to do anything." Including the communication with the PC if the power switch is off? I know the charger is an always on no matter the power switch is on or off

It should communicate with the computer even when the power switch is off (if that is the way APC works, I am not sure), the charger is also always on regardless of the power switch is on or off. The blown 780-15 may also used for running the monitoring circuit beside running the charger.
The monitoring works the same way as what you are trying to do, when the power is present it runs off the power supply and when AC is not present it runs off the batteries so it can keep the communication going with the PC.

nothing it will not even turn on without a connected battery I am assuming it has something todo with the blown TL780-15

The UPS batteries monitoring circuit that talks to the computer is connected to the terminals of the batteries, so if you connected the external charger to it, you will have to make sure that the external charger will not force feed the Voltage/current into the internal charger and cause damages. What does it show on the PC right now on the 350 when the power switch on the UPS is not on and the batteries is not connected?

ok would it be possible to use something along the lines of what you posted earlier that but to use a relay to use an external charger instead of the built-in charger or would this cause the ups to be unable to detect the battery? the reason for this being I don't want to kill the builtin charger pulling to much current or my deep cycles by not charging them with enough current.

    Thanks,

Ok I have been going over the PCB and I have no idea on the regulator as they are all heatskinked and you can't read the labels

If it uses one 12V battery then more likely to be the same setup as the 350, around 1~1.5A for charging circuit, you can look for the voltage regulator on the board around the transformer.

first on the 350 I found the problem with the charging circuit apparently the TL780-15 blew out as it is only outputting 1.5volts.

now on the backups 400 do you happen to know what the charger can output as I have no interest in the inverter portion of the unit only the 12vdc side but I had to plow the charging circuit the first time I hook it up as I will be pulling roughly 3amps eventually 5amps,

cable has non standard pinout(thanks apc!)
iirc there is still a site ups club that has pinout and schematics of these older units.
supported under windows and linux natively.
these i add a fan to that only runs in inverter mode.
so now you have a charger, monitor, and a working ups limited only by the battery you connect.

But it does not look like it has any interface for it to talk to the computer.

Is that the exact model 400?, I can see if we can get the diagram for it.

ok question I have a couple of old metal back-ups 400 that are fully working would I be better off attempting to mod one of them forgot I had them.

    Thanks,

    the older ones yes.
these newer, cheaper ones get hot even without load.
some are wired up as autoformers so be careful.no isolation!

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?
    by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

    APSINT3636VR 3600W APS INT Series 36V DC 230V AC Inverter/Charger schematic
    by Gentian
I have a tripp-lite aspint 3636vr inverter charger which blow some of mosfet transistors. I replaced them repaired also the driver circuit and tested but the mosfets burn again.

It work very well as inverter and also as charger if I let the rear switch in auto mode (inverter) and charger only(charging) but in auto when I connect the feed line 220V AC first time it pass ok to line and start charging the batteries but when I remove the feed line it pass to inverter mode and if I do it again the second time when passing from charging to inverter the Main transformer start making a...

Insignia NS-LCD19-09 (PS OK, Inverter problem?)
    by valvashon
For some reason I'm just not going to let this 19" TV defeat me. I guess because I have a schematic to work from I feel like I'm oh so close.

History- while adding a turn-on circuit I let a small screw roll under the power board. Worked through all of that circuitry, probably replacing a MOSFET and PWM controller that were not bad but I was following the service manual. Finally figured out that the power supply is in working order when the inverter section (for the backlights) is disconnected. When the +12 supply to the inverter is disconnected the +12 and +5 will come up...

A modified sine wave inverter + a grid tie inverter?
    by eccerr0r
If I had a solar fed grid tie inverter (GTI), a modified sine wave inverter, and a power outage occurred, what would happen if you disconnected mains, backfed the modified sinewave inverter (MSI) into house power, and hooked up the GTI to the output of the MSI, would it work?

Next thing is trying to charge the batteries using solar power, but that's another issue ...

    Sony KDL-46BX450 Inverter Troubleshoot Logic
    by caseyjay_48
I am currently on a troubleshoot of 46” Sony KDL-46BX450 tv. I came back from Washington to Texas on medical emergency and had to leave all my tools up there. All I have is a couple of screwdrivers and a dvm. I wish to ask the community a troubleshooting question. Please forgive stupid questions as meds I am taking produce brain fog.
I have well maintained Sony KDL-46BX450. It went black one day. After turn-on, I get solid green light and Sony logo in screen center for about 1-2 seconds, then black. No blinking LEDs, no hissing. Flashlight test shows screen characters dimly viewable,...
