    Removing Silicone from IC's

I've looked through the forums and can't find the info I'm looking for. I have to remove some chips from one board and put them on another board. I used my rework station and scraped whatever silicone I could off the chip but there's still some on it. I tried goof off and it didn't work. Any ideas?

    EDIT: Will this work?

That should work, I use Silicone Grout sealer (I found this out by accident when I was sealing the grout and spill some on the Silicone seal around the tub, the Silicone just came right off).

I have some grout sealer. I'll try that first.

The grout sealer didn't work. Off to Home Depot tomorrow.

the type that comes in a pencil.

although you should have used it before lifting the part.

I haven't pulled the chip yet. I have a few test chips I can pull first. First time using the rework station. Going to Home Depot right away.

Bought the silicone remover. Worked pretty good. I used a board type scraper brush after to get the rest off. Seems to work. Tomorrow I will try to use my rework station to put a chip on for the first time.

I bought the DAP silicon remover. It works pretty good. Not as good as I would like it but I used a fiberglass brush for removing the coating on pcb's to scrap it off. Tonight will be my first attempt on re attaching a plcc. Wish me luck!

plcc is easy with air - just use a swirling motion around it while gently testing at one corner with a lifter or blade

why the silicone sealer on pcb boards ?
                      by petehall347
wondering why the battery packs i have been looking at have a coating of white silicone type stuff covering them ? its just i had to remove it from a board to repair it and wondered if and what i should replace it with ?
these are the 80v power tool packs .
only thing i can think of is to help stop bits falling off with the vibrations from the tools .
p.s it comes off ok with petrol and an old toothbrush . and patience .

Samsung UN55NU7300F Curved TV. Half side backlight out. Fixed by just removing the rear snap cover
                      by howardc64
TV was fixed just after removing Samsung's rear snap cover.

This curved TV's construction is rather interesting. When the snapped on back is removed, rest of the TV will relax the curvature. Top of LCD panel is loose as it wants to straighten out against the slightly curved bezel. Snapped back provide most of the curvature shape. So just simple disassembly of rear cover will allow the rest of the TV frame to relax its curvature. Thats probably what fixed it but no idea which connection. 4x LEDs are edge lit.

Maybe PSU->backlight connector didn't have a good contact?...

Question about removing the BIOS lock
                      by mustardcheese
Hi all, I have a Dell Latitude 7300 with a locked BIOS and I was curious about the process of removing the lock by editing the hex values of the bin and how to do it. Is editing the hex values of the dumped bios any different than flashing a new one that's already been unlocked? (I currently don't have the correct bin because I realize I accidentally dumped the wrong thing). I am very new to this any help or advice or references would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I got this set for very cheap, it works perfectly but the catch is that the protective coating was damaged. About 45% of the screen had a green tint, you can see exactly where the layer changed colors to a blueish tone (that actually makes everything green).

"Ok, that's probably just the anti-glare layer" - I thought. So using a microfiber cloth and automotive metal polish I was easily able to turn it into a nice mirror.

Unfortunately, the damage was beyond this layer and everything still had a horrible green tint. I initially...
