Re: Multimeter Settings!
yes you need a diffrent meter i would go for one that tests esr too as thats a important test too carry out on capacitors ebay has some good bargains. -
Re: Multimeter Settings!
You can measure it with your existing meter, but the maths are frightening.. plus you will need some known good ones

I would be more tempted to throw together a simple ac bridge circuit with known components and treat the cap as Cx
http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/text...idge-circuits/
With big electrolytics their actual values are (most textbooks agree) -20%/+80% within tolerance. The more important measurements are their ESR and their leakage. Many of us old timers don't even bother with the ESR.. if they leak they go in the bin.. leaky caps pass current, get hot and dry up more.. which increases the leakage current which makes them hotter.. until they either go open, or vent.Comment

Re: Multimeter Settings!
im using rs components at the minute for parts as have free delivery and no minimum order quick delivery too usually next day via parcel force.Comment

Re: Multimeter Settings!
That's a better idea than bothering to test the capacitance. Capacitance rarely tells you whether the cap is working properly. ESR is the way to go.Comment

by chth96I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that
"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."
Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...-

by sam_sam_samI have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board
I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery... -
by i440bxHey there,
I got a HP Elitebook 820 G3 Engineering Sample Laptop and I want to use it. Besides the difficult things at the ES-BIOS I have a big problem by saving the main BIOS settings.
The laptop does not have a big battery because it was dead, but I already plugged in a new CMOS battery.
It takes about 5min without power and the BIOS settings are lost. Unfortunatly I dont understand why the BIOS settings are only saved with power connected and this is the reason why I registered here.
As written above, I plugged in a new CMOS cell and checked...3 Photos -

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.
I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...-

by jorpecHi
I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?
