Solder Pad Lifted - Is it fixable?

When attempting to remove a surface mounted transformer some of the solder pads lifted.
Is this fixable by a novice or is the board screwed?

    thanks

Ask from Santa to hand you over a pro soldering iron.

I do not think that you can rescue it, you better ask direct help from an expert in your location.

at this point I'd probably be better off buying a replacement board even though I just spent $10 on a replacement transformer. Ugh!

Depends, can you tie it in to one of the things from those other transformers? Or would that be a disaster waiting to happen?

Get another board, and some new equipment.. Now you have a board you can practice on... How long did you have the iron on that pad ?

Well I would try and fix it - top 4 contacts middle 2 are not connected
end 2 go to bulb socket.

Bottom 4 more difficult middle two are primary outer are secondary, you will need to test where those pads go on the other transformers then just hard wire them in. - any clues on the back of the board

Better picture would help try and clean it up a bit first

It is not about willingnes .. it is about owning an true soldering iron capable for SMD work, plus experiance about using it.

Why you do not ask for a picture of the soldering iron which caused this disaster ?

This is not another one story which deserves to start a debade about.... we just canot help the man by using a remote control.

Well you just keep out of it and let those who want to try and help make fools of themselves. We were warned when you first joined this forum that you were argumentative, to put it mildly, and at the time I stuck up for you. I have kept away from any threads in which you have been involved but you have finally tipped me over the edge- Congratulations. I dont need to see the soldering iron - only the damage. If we can fix it from a distance and with his ability and soldering iron would you admit you were wrong.

To keep it short (well my definition of short).

With a good soldering iron, you can solder some insulated wires to the leads of the transformer and then solder the other ends of the wires to some place where those pads are connected to.
Just look at the broken pads and follow the traces to some place that has a larger surface and would allow you to scrape off a bit of that white insulating material off and solder the wire there.
BUT keep in mind that transformer and the pads will have high voltage, so you MUST use then some heatshrink AND/OR some electrician's tape (maybe 2-3 layers of it)

From the looks of the board, it simply looks like the board heatsinks the solder iron tip very well (lots of copper in it or large traces from the pads) so the iron couldn't really heat up the solder enough to solder it right. There's lots of what seems to be burned flux and burned transparent pcb insulating film. Would be a good idea to use a bit of isopropyl alcohol to rub and clean that area (perhaps using a toothbrush)

Mate close that imaginary friend of yours in a safe place, so to not cause any additional harm in your damaged sentimetal condition.

By accepting the fact that you are totally inexperianced to pass one worthy tecnical advice to others, you will feel much better.

Re: Solder Pad Lifted - Is it fixable?

My original Insignia thread is here. I apologize for having 2 threads but my problem being technique and equipment related I decided to post here as well.
Anyways budm has posted a nice photo with diagram on my original thread and I will try and upload some pics.

Starting at the top the first pad is lifted but still attached to it's trace, the next 2 pads are not hooked to anything (to my understanding), and the top right pad is not lifted.
On the bottom row the first pad is lifted but still attached to its trace, the middle 2 pads are not lifted, and the right pad is completely gone with only the trace wire remaining.
It also appears I melted some of the solder points together in the grouping below the bottom middle right pin.

                      thanks everyone

post these pics on there as well.
That through the board pic is a great idea - I have used it before but forgot to suggest it.

You better use some high quality glue as mounting point for the transformer on the PCB, and then try to restore the solder pads or by bridges wires.

I fixed worst than this, glad to hear you got it fixed, apply electronic grade Silicone RTV on the wires and the transformer legs.

Talking about hard soldering works, ever try to solder wires to FFC? This done using my good old trusty Weller WTCP from the early 70's.

                                Hello!

I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

                                Measured voltages with no load:

                                After rectifier diodes
                                12V: 6.17 V
                                5V: 5.67 V

Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
                                12V: 2-2.5 V
                                5V: 1.04 V

I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).

                                Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
                                My questions are
                                1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
                                2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is...

i would like to post an interesting topic regarding 3-phase stepdown transformer which we suspect to cause an overcurrent (138A) which resulted to power tripped off of the HV power supply (80KV output).

                                Problem statement: Power tripped Off

Initial Problem: Found 2 IGBT and 2 rectifier diodes shorted (burnt).

                                1) Replaced the faulty parts with good spare.
                                2) Measured impedance of the 3phase input lines and found that L2 to L3 has 23.3ohm while other pairs are 51Kohm. This pins will...
