Re: Looking for a digital oscilloscope
Before 24 hours you was not aware of what scope to get, and now you have buy one and it is delivered to you?
Well I can not follow this conversation any more.
And actualy I do think that this topic is bad joke.Comment

Re: Looking for a digital oscilloscope
I don't think it's been delivered. He was just saying that the one he purchased is brand new.Comment

Re: Looking for a digital oscilloscope
I just wonder about the Owon/Rigol. I do recall some DSOs that are "slow" to respond to input changes (as in, though it records/stores it, it takes a second before it's displayed). I don't recall which one I was playing with, but it was a little annoying.
This is something an analog doesn't have... how "slow" are typical DSOs these days (and which one is the fastest, so I get something that works similar to my analog?)Comment

Re: Looking for a digital oscilloscope
All the low budget scopes they remind a Mastech or UNI-T multimeter which jumps around due it slowness.
And I am not saying anything new here.
My dream was to get something that is announced as fast, and truly is fast in my eyes.
Fast translates to sensitive enough to present on screen finest detail (high screen resolution) and significant amount of data points, with one acceptable speed which will give you the confidence that it responds spontaneously in every change.
Honestly I did pee my pants from happiness because of this GDS-2102A.
In my location there is no much chances for try-out and returns especially about scopes.
Yes it belongs to another price point, but I am aware that I would not be happy with anything less.
The good part is than now I can offer an opinion to a professional that at about 1200$, yes you can touch quality.Comment

Re: Looking for a digital oscilloscope
I bought an Owon PDS5022S before I purchased my Rigol DS1052E. I quickly returned it after doing more thorough research. Also, that model was only 20 MHz.Comment

by repair-itI am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

Hello.
I have jut got my first analogue oscilloscope. An Isotech 620 20MHz.
I want to learn how not to damage it, and I found instructions on the internet obscure.
They talk about ground, earth, floating ground, this, that....
But they don't actually say anything anything useful so far.
I want to know:
Don't connect exactly this to exactly there or it blows up.
For example, I am tracing a signal from a function generator in an audio amp, or testing for voltages in different parts of a circuit.
I want to know what not to connect... -
Hello, I got this AVR for cheap and tried to fix it as a fun and learning project.
First the audio video receiver would turn on but had no sound at all, but no "PROTECT" message.
So, I opened the metal case and noticed some marks showing that some liquid has been spilled on the amp. Those water marks were found on the main board and the digital board.
I disassembled everything, then checked every single cap on every board of the amp and recapped when needed.
Also fixed A LOT of cold solder joints and also done some modifications,...-

Recently my father-in-law sent my wife and I out to Arkansas from SLC, Utah to pick up a van. Weird, but true. My father-in-law owns an auto repair shop and found this beefed-out van with a wheelchair lift (I guess those are really expensive).
The woman we picked it up from was getting rid of her father's estate after he passed.
While we were there - she had opened his garage to give us the extra seat for the van - I saw an oscilloscope sitting in the corner. I guess the guy was an engineer. One of the really really smart ones that worked on projects 12 levels above... -
