Recommended resource for learning/using this EZ Digital Oscilloscope DS-1100

Recently my father-in-law sent my wife and I out to Arkansas from SLC, Utah to pick up a van. Weird, but true. My father-in-law owns an auto repair shop and found this beefed-out van with a wheelchair lift (I guess those are really expensive).

The woman we picked it up from was getting rid of her father's estate after he passed.

While we were there - she had opened his garage to give us the extra seat for the van - I saw an oscilloscope sitting in the corner. I guess the guy was an engineer. One of the really really smart ones that worked on projects 12 levels above top secret. So I had to ask if I could buy it and she just gave it to me along with a bunch of other electronics and gadgets. She just wanted to be rid of it all. The nerd that I am, I couldn't help myself. I came home with a bunch of nutty stuff.

I've never used one before; though I probably know more about them than most people who know what they are but never used one. :P heh

Anyway - what's a good place to start? If I really want to get down and dirty with this thing - does anybody have any recommendations for video tutorials or PDFs online that could put me on a fast-track to using this thing safely and effectively?

I'd love to put it to good use

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You may want to read Textronix web site to learn the basic about the oscilloscope:

Then try to download the manual for your scope.

@stj - Thank you for the manual. I do have the probes. Though, given the state of them, it might not be a bad idea to order a new set. They were tangled up with a bunch of other dirty greasy cables and they're not in the best shape.

@budm - thank you for the links. I appreciate it

Sony STR-DE445 did I get a faulty IC?

Hello, I got this AVR for cheap and tried to fix it as a fun and learning project.

First the audio video receiver would turn on but had no sound at all, but no "PROTECT" message.

So, I opened the metal case and noticed some marks showing that some liquid has been spilled on the amp. Those water marks were found on the main board and the digital board.

I disassembled everything, then checked every single cap on every board of the amp and recapped when needed.

Also fixed A LOT of cold solder joints and also done some modifications,...

How not to Damage an Oscilloscope
          by Tarot Superstars
          Hello.
I have jut got my first analogue oscilloscope. An Isotech 620 20MHz.

I want to learn how not to damage it, and I found instructions on the internet obscure.
They talk about ground, earth, floating ground, this, that....
But they don't actually say anything anything useful so far.

          I want to know:
Don't connect exactly this to exactly there or it blows up.

For example, I am tracing a signal from a function generator in an audio amp, or testing for voltages in different parts of a circuit.
I want to know what not to connect...

1/3rd of screen black with occasional vertical lines - repair attempt for learning! - Kogan KALED58RT9220SVA

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...

          Dynamco analogue oscilloscope
          by Evets
I have recently acquired a Dynamco D7100 analogue oscilloscope without a user manual. As this is the first time I have owned or used an oscilloscope I would like to try and find an instruction book. The manufacturers no longer hold any information and a Google search only found one site but when I downloaded a 'service manual' all I got was gobbledegook. Any help would be gratefully appreciated or even pointers to a generic manual where I could learn more.
