Re: Good Fan Brands
The Sunon maglev fans seem to last forever. Their other fans not so much, but they're hardly the worst out there. I see quite a few noisy Sunons in older Dell PSUs.Leave a comment:

Nidec should be moved to OK list. They're not as good as they used to be.Leave a comment:

Re: Good Fan Brands
On the topic of good fan brands, I think Sunon are also an excellent choice. Most of them seem very quiet for the amount of air they move. Delta are good too and very reliable, but they tend to be noisy.Last edited by momaka; 11-01-2010, 10:04 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Good Fan Brands
i relube any i have in use and they seem to go on forever.many are dry inside.
I found a seized Superred fan in a Macron PSU once. My overall impressions of it were not so good. Instead of having a normal rubber plug like most other fans, it had a plastic insert/plug pressed into the casing. Had to resort to drilling and let's just say it didn't look all that pretty afterwards. It worked though!Fan is lubed and running all good now.
Power Logic is pretty decent. I've had one last 7 years @ pretty much full blast (10-11v) in a L&C PSU. Still works great. When I opened it, there was still plenty of oil in there and the sleeve had almost no play/wobble. Found another Power Logic in a Deer PSU too. Same decent quality.
Interesting. Where do you get this info anyways.

On a related note, I wonder if all of these sleeve bearing fans seize up do to improper (or rather lack of) lubrication at the factory.Leave a comment:

Re: Good Fan Brands
NMB
Nonoise (uses different makers but they tend to be much low current fan for quiietness).
Delta
Nidec
Sankyo
A decent ball bearing fans listed above lasts long time and quiet. Under-volt them enough. 5V-6V is plenty for 12V fans.

Re: Good Fan Brands
I see top motor a lot in cheaper power supplies like topower and the older antec CWT units. Makes me thing they might just be OK fans.
Protechnic are about the same IMO. Same with Power Logic. Also put Colorful Industrial in this category.
Globe Fan is a pretty good company.
Te Bao Metallic Plastic seem cheap, and they like to cease up. They can actually be quiet though and push decent air. You know how they are always found in sunpro power supplies? Thats because Te Bao is the name of the sunpro factory, Te Bao metallic plastic fans are made by sunpro.
Cherry brand fans are found in a lot of cheap yuelin made cases and power supplies, they are noisy and don't push much air. Superfan are found in some of the nicer sunpro made power supplies and cases, but they are questionable as I haven't seen too many of them around.Last edited by 370forlife; 10-29-2010, 06:38 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Good Fan Brands
reliability is simple,
ball-race bearings will slowly get noisy but always run,
bronze or ceramic sleeves will bind or even disintegrate causing the blades to seize - often without warning.
so the bearings are what matters.
now if your asking about db & cfm we can start praising and diss'ing different makes!Leave a comment:

by cookAre there good brands for 'run capacitors' or 'start capacitors' that are used on electric motors or heat pump compressors? ... r are the good capacitor brands for electronics (power supplies, laptops, motherboards, etc.) also the good brands for run capacitors?
Yeah I know this might be a novice question, but I just wanted to be sure. I did do a search on the forum but did not see this question asked before.

by emil_tHello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....04-12-2024, 06:54 AM

by MgiffuneI have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.
I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and... -
