Philips tuners have always seemed to be highly regarded (from what I've heard anyways) so I wouldn't be surprised if the Philips was better in some form or another. However, I have no complaints about my Theater 650 Pro based tuner.

      Re: My OTA HD Setup

My old house was like 25 miles and with the amp a standard roof UHF/VHF worked fine.
Needed the amp even for non-HD there because the old cable sucked [sun & heat & time] and was freakin'n long. I wasn't gonna replace the run of cable in a rented house but I did replace the balun on the antenna because the 115F summers here kill them every so often too.

When I would fix a TV of set up a tuner card and have to check it [after HD was the only option] I'd run a cable and stick a regular rabbit ears on the front porch table [without an amp] and even just that got 3/4 of the stations nice and clear.

At the new place I'm like 12 miles and the rabbit ears don't even need to be outside.

i dunno, i've always used hauppauge... so everything says phillips besides the conveniently silkscreened hauppauge logo
