    Psuedo-4K LCD panels

I have come across (and was burned by at least one) so called "4K" (claiming 3840 * 2160) LCD panels which have an actual resolution of Full HD (1920 * 1080) meaning that every second pixel in either direction is skipped.
For panels 19 inches (used in notebooks and tablets) and smaller with an Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) interface, do you know of any "4K" panels fitting into this category which do not have actual 4K resolution and the ones which have actual 4K resolution?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

How can you tell it's a fake 4K LCD panel?

You could make a test image with checkboarded pixels. If the panel is fake, it would only render 1 color, not both.

"pseudo-4K" to me, are LCD-RGBWs! I think the non-totally-fake ones, are true 2K, or at least higher than 1920x1080.

Will the LCDs with RGBW be a fad like the dreaded AMR slots of the early-2000s?

Even amoled TVs have the RGBW arrangement and just about all amoled phones use the pentile arrangement, I still think despite only 800x480 res or whatever it was my old Galaxy SII had the best looking amoled as it was RGB stripe.

            +1

I have made myself a set of these for every resolution from 640x480 up to 2k HD.
On LCDs, it's indeed great for testing for "fake resolutions".
And on CRTs, it's great for adjusting focus and moire cancellation.

Here is a test pattern to tell if a 4K panel has actual 4K resolution:

RGB, even with a W pixel together, on OLED, didn't appear to have negative effects.

IIRC, it's RGBW on LCDs that you need to worry about!

                  Sell or Shim Solar panels?
                  by eccerr0r
Well, due to my grid tie inverter not accepting high voltages, and the fact that the lions in my solar panels are 36V (72-cell) I think I need to stick with 72-cell.

However I have a few smaller panels that are 36, 32, and two 30-cell. The 36 and 32 together run at 75% efficiency (and subtract more with additional inefficiencies) when running in parallel with the 72-cell panels. The kicker is that the two 30s... generate 0% power when connected in parallel(!)

So now what to do with these small panels?

                  I could sell them...

                  Or I could shim them....

Laptop LCD Panel Upgrade (HP Elitebook G8 845)
                  by nobbnobb1
                  Hello,

I have an HP Elitebook G8 845 with the base 14" 250 nit LCD screen which looks terrible. I believe the base unit is a B140HAN04.6 (but not 100% sure). From looking at some part interchange numbers, I believe this is the 400 nit upgraded panel which came as an option (not 100% sure...just based off an Aliexpress listing):

                  B140HAN05.3 https://www.panelook.com/B140HAN05.3...iew_42334.html

Then looking at the same family of panels, this unit appears to be a version with better specs:

Liebherr Fridge Freezer KGT 3456 not working
                  by CG2
To be a bit more specific, I've got a 20-ish year old Liebherr that has just stopped working. This was quite a sophisticated beast for its time. It's a twin compressor model, and you set the desired temperatures of the fridge and freezer parts from a couple of little control panels above the door. It displays the actual temps on some eight segment displays there, flashing if it's working to get to where you want it. There's a control board with a microprocessor on it that read the temperature from a couple of sensors, switches the compressors on as necessary, and runs the display. There's also...

Can LED panels be used from different TV's ( or the internals to the panel )?
                  by NolesFan
I have a TV, ( example ) Sony XBR-75X80G that the LED panel is cracked, does anyone know if we can take the LED panel from a ( example ) Sony XBR-75X80H and plug it in and it will work? Or if the panel measurements is not exact, can we take the internals of the cracked panel 80G TV and mount into the good panel 80H TV? Thank you

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...
