To each their own on that being "Sexy". I (and IIRC Topcat) find them ugly.
Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

You must have a sad, sad boring life if you hate on people harmlessly enjoying life with an animal costume.

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

Haha Yea, sexy is probably a bit far but it's not bad, I like the completely open front of 5.25 bays to add hard drive backplane bays for a large NAS server. The big fan though is a bit much

the big fan is the plus-point, it will force air between all your drives to keep them cool.

If it's like the other linkworld units I've seen, bad caps are the least of the problems... Sure, it's no leadman/powmax/a-power POS, but it's probably not much better. From the pictures I've seen, the wiring looks thin, which isn't a good sign.

                    Just my opinion...

Heatsinks are okay, D209L switchers. Just the Y caps aren't safety rated and the lytics are crap stuff but I've replaced most of them with Ricons (temporarily) from 2014. Not the brightest idea I had but will have to wait until I actually find some good caps to use.

Here's a pic of one. The only difference between mine and the one in the picture is that mine doesn't have PFC and the main transformer (marked YE 0824 in the picture) was replaced with a real ERL35 from a dead Kaizen I long threw away.

The only things left are to mount a thermistor in series with the fan, replace the caps and probably I'll take a chance at replacing the rectifiers to balance the outputs.

Maybe I'm picky but the guts don't scream "460W".... more like 200-250W.

I'd say 300W with the new transformer.

Peak - sure. Continuous, I don't know. You'd really have to put a thermocouple on that output toroid and see how it does at that kind of load.

"sexy thang"? ha! Looks more like a subwoofer to me, with that big side fan .
But as stj noted, that big fan should be quite good - not just for the HDDs, but also to keep all of the motherboard's components cool.

Some Lenovo desktop from 2012- parted out into a parts computer of mine; needs HDD
Dell Dimension E310- Needs CPU upgrade, front I/O board, HDD, and RAM upgrade
HP Envy 14 Beats Edition laptop- needs HDD and keyboard
Scientific Atlanta 6500 Series Line Amplifier
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

                                XMAS in May!

"Goodie gifts" from colleagues on my recent trip:
                                • 32GB (4x8) of DDR3 PC12800 SDRAM
                                • 2TB portable (USB) HDD
                                • 7 in LCD monitor

Waiting for me, on my return:
                                • a NiB Epson 10000 XL B-size, networked scanner
                                • another Z800 (2x6core Xeon, 4x500GB, 24G DDR3)
                                • a 4G GTX 960
                                • a pair of 46" (?) LG TV's

And, an excellent response to my request for kit for the local school kids:
                                • 15 Dell Precision M6500's (16GB, 256GB SSD's) w/200W bricks
                                • 3 trays (100 count/ea) of DDR3 SODIMMs (4G + 2x16G)

No idea why the TVs got dropped off as they both seem to work (and why do
folks only give you HALF of the mounting bracket??!)

Unfortunately, the laptops are a bad fit (too large) so I'll send them back and see if I can get something else, instead.

I'll hold onto at least one tray of SODIMMs in the hope that I can pick up some SFF desktops that might need memory. Any "excess" memory I'll see if I can quickly unload/swap for more machines/monitors. I figure I should probably be able to get ~100 "modest" systems for the lot.

Biggest problem will be requesting the licenses from MS and getting all of them built before the kids get out of school for the summer! I guess I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks... <frown>

                                  2x LCD displays.
1x 'Pizza Box' computer (not sure what the styles official name is but it looks like a pizza box).
3x CRT displays (not sure why).
And a bunch of other crap.

                                    Anyone know what it is?

                                      Got these:

Powerlink LPG2 550W - craziest thing I've ever bought to this day - 3 fans! Working although one of the fans (the one on the roof) was seized. Lubed it but not sure how long it will work. ERL39 transformer as well!

ECS K7VZA Rev3 - this one had bad caps - replaced them with a bunch of Rubies, 2 OSTs and 2 KZGs (I didn't have any Rubies left, that's why I went with the OSTs and KZGs).

Posts fine now, haven't hooked a HDD yet though.

Recently I've gotten into EC flashing due to my broken laptop(s) and started frantically searching methods for flashing the IT5571E-128 chip on the cheap(due to me beaing a student and not having a job) and noticed that ITE newer chips can be flashed via ISP (In-System Programming) either via SMBus or the KBC (EPP - Enhanced Parallel Port) interface. While these can be achieved with programmers like SVOD4/3 or the RT809H/F those options are WAYYY out of my budget so I was horrified. But recently I stumbled uppon some programmers on aliexpress that claim they can program a variety of ITE chips...

My Mom bought some cheap motion sensor lights on wish... then complains about about batteries and this thing chews though them, well it uses 4 AAA batteries and a pack of rechargeable ones is about 13 USD

well since it uses 4 AAA and rechargeable are 1.2v and non-recharge at 1.5 this thing must work with 4.8-6v, I'll shove a USB cable on it, infant i will use a broken phone charge cable... dam this thing uses 430 mA and they made it battery powered...

lets ignore the fact that i thought the board fit both ways... and the wire color is reversed going to the board...

                                            Hi all,

I was looking to upgrade my main multimeter (Asita MD591) with something that has more features. I'll use it mostly for board diagnostic and diy repairs. I've been eyeing out many of those multi-function ones from Aliexpress but can't seem to make my mind up. Here are the features that I'm looking after:

                                            - Autorange
                                            - DC volts up to 30V
                                            - Accurate Resistance
                                            - Diode test (Beep mode)
                                            - Frequency up to 200MHz
                                            - Capacitanze up to 5000uF
                                            - as cheap as possible

Other functions are not needed but those which are needed...

Just as the title states. Two cheap SiS machines, surprisingly stable.

What I will tackle in the near future (the build will be slightly postponed due to slight stomach issues - am still recovering and my physical power (sorry if it sounds weird,English isn't quite my primary language) isn't the best at the moment. Especially with the diet I have to take at the moment.) are two SiS based machines.

The first one is a IPC rebranded Mitac 7521T. Why did I feel the need to tackle this machine? Well, just look at the specs:

"Caseless Cheap Chinese electronic tools" I mean things you get from banggood, ali, fleabay, Am-Zon, etc. like AVR-Transistortester, miscellaneous signal generators, frequency counters, (variable) power supplies, oscilloscopes, low resistance meters, etc., etc. that comes optionally with a case, or comes only with a cheap piece of plastic that barely provides protection to the PCB.

Just wondering what of these (generally flimsy) tools you actually find use (almost) everyday and find indispensable for the price, compared to buying a Fluke or whatnot, if there is an expensive...
