Dude, you have a awesome gaming computer, super fast processor, tons of ram, awesome video card. Why? It has Fedora, you can't play any games on your gaming computer!

I think you can still play games on Linux but you have to use an emulator or something like that? If I'm not mistaken, the emulator to run Windows apps and games on Linux is called 'Wine'?

Actually, a lot of games are not WINE compatible. I was looking for it in my both my far cry's and painkiller black edition's, they both say they are not compatible with linux emulators like WINE. Even my old cereal box lego's rock raiders isn't wine compatible.

There are other things to do with a computer aside from playing games.

That said, my interest in games kind of dropped off after college and all my gaming buddies moved away. I do dual boot into windows if I need to play a game, but the last time I was in there was at least 1 month ago. So I figured it was not important to list it on the sig. 99.9% of the time I'm in Fedora doing business work. Underutilized computer to be sure, but it runs Compiz very nicely.

Linux does have some nice games on it's own too:

If it's worth it to you to eat Microsoft's Crap and to pay them for the honor just to play games them more power to ya.

But if that's your choice then don't bitch about Microsoft.
You guys know enough that you chose Windows fully knowing what to expect.

If I cared about games I'd go get a game system instead of using a PC.
With the cost of each new Windows version (and of a system with enough balls to make it work right) in the long run a game system is much cheaper.

i'll see if i can solve it by sp3 or downgrading to ie6....
firefox takes too long to boot, opera and chrome have their own quirks...
i would prefer to stay on ie.
like i said, i like how it hides favorites that are not used, and exposes those that are.
                            that's very important

                            what to expect from win?

Good god where'd you get that.
Do you know how many Vista laptops I've seen via EE that aren't upgradeable to XP because MS won't license XP drivers? (Yes, I said upgradeable.)

                              what to expect from win?
                              - Problems and a very thin wallet.

I don't have a problem with anyone being a gamer.
But if you are PC savy and insist on the latest/weakest MS software as your medium to play games then don't whine about what you KNEW would be the case before you chose the path.

he just said win is a better place for games, and it's the true.

oh yeah...you're disqualified to talk about linux as i don't think you converted to linux yet.
                                <wink>

about drivers: you seem to be saying there are no xp drivers for particular laptops?
aren't drivers a thing of hardware mfr?

but overall sure: win has most drivers written for it.
i mean, if you don't have xp driver for something chances are you won't have linux driver, as hardware makers must sell the thing they're making.
and linux drivers only wouldn't be such a good idea
                                http://blog.laptopmag.com/msi-wind-c...ls-coming-soon
"You mention the return rates being high. Has that been the case with the Wind as well?
We have done a lot of studies on the return rates and haven't really talked about it much until now. Our internal research has shown that the return of netbooks is higher than regular notebooks, but the main cause of that is Linux. People would love to pay $299 or $399 but they don't know what they get until they open the box. They start playing around with Linux and start realizing that it's not what they are used to. They don't want to spend time to learn it so they bring it back to the store. The return rate is at least four times higher for Linux netbooks than Windows XP netbooks"

i have yet to find ANY vista infected machine i could not find xp drivers for all hardware it has.
and esp ubuntu linux has good support for most hw.
this from someone who makes good money upgrading laptops to xp for my clients.
i could give a rats ass if the drivers come with micro$not's blessing (curse).

Many newer notebooks are XP crippled by design.

I have found one: VixS Pure TV-U 48B0

This was a card installed on that Gateway debacle I serviced sometime back. I dug around everywhere, including my Driverpacks. No luck. Mfgr site said Vista only. My solution was removing the card when I installed XP on these machines.
