How do I know if RAID is really working

I have a gateway that has a RAID controller.
The bios say its in RAID mode.
    In computer management I see:
    C: system boot... etc
    D: primary partition (recovery)
E: Primary partition ( size is equal to an blank disk )

Haven't used raid for awhile but as I recall, it should see the RAID array, two disks as one disk. So it should have only one primay partition.

    Any thoughts?

Microsoft RAID is a tinker toy. First, the striping is done in software... oh great.. I want to let Microsoft handle yet another super-critical disk function.

    No thanks.

If you really want RAID, do it in hardware. Spend the $$$ for a good card. Software RAID is bupkis. You can find all sorts of performance data on the various RAID flavors. There are benefits and penalties to each configuration.

GHOST images and regular backups will keep you out of trouble.

Multiple partitions can be defined on one disk - does Device Manager show one disk, or more ?
better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Device manager also shows two disks.

I think that even though the bios show its in raid mode, its not really seeing the two disks as one, as I think it should in a raid.
