    CPU Multiplier problems

In the computer in my sig, I'm having a problem with setting the multiplier. I can set it down from the stock 9, but not up. The selections are there in the bios for up to 19x, and I can select them. It will even show the correctly calculated number on the screen at POST, and in Windows. But, in CPU-Z it shows 9x and the appropriate number of MHz for a 9x multiplier and whatever bus speed I'm running. Also, my super-pi times do not improve. Plus, being able to set 19x400 and have it boot into windows kind of tells me it's not really setting it.

I am using the latest Rebel's Haven mod bios, although I have tested it with a couple standard Biostar bios's with the same results.

I can still OC using the bus speed, and I'm currently running 445x9 @ 1.34v. But I want my multipliers dammit! I paid enough money for the QX chip I should be able to use it.

After you all stop laughing, got any ideas?

    Re: CPU Multiplier problems

    You can't with Intel.

But, I heard that multiplier increasing is possible with the new Athlon 64 5000+s.

Sounds like AMD brought that back!

      Re: CPU Multiplier problems

Well supposedly the QX chips have an unlocked multiplier. See the review here:

        Re: CPU Multiplier problems

Yes I have looked at several test reviews and they all push up the multiplier as far as 12.

The issue seems to come back to your mainboard. The bios may not be correct at this time. Have you checked with mainboard manufacturer?

          Re: CPU Multiplier problems

No, that was going to be my next step. Although I doubt they'll do anything.

Tempted to send it back and get a Gigabyte P35-DS3L. All solid caps, changing the multiplier... pretty tempting. That's probably the one I should have bought to begin with. But I'll give Biostar a chance first.

            Re: CPU Multiplier problems

The Black editions and the FX series from AMD and the X (extreme) editions from Intel all have unlocked multipliers. Otherwise you are limited to your CPU speed divided by your FSB. Ex, C2D E6400 runs at 2.16 with a (quad-pumped) FSB of 1066. So take 1066 divide by four (remember it's quad pumped) to get 266mhz, then divide that from your CPU speed, 2.16GHz, and you get a multiplier of 8x!

You can always go down, A64's (K8) go to 4x with a 200mhz bus, Intel's it depends on the series and model. My Q6600 only goes from 6-9x.

Just remember that it's the CPU, not the board that sets the limits on the multiplier.
            Q6600 @ 3330, 2x2GB G.Skill @ 888, HD3870, 2*250GB in RAID 0, 1680x1050 22"
            T5470 (1.6Ghz), 2x1GB Corsair, 8600M GT, 160GB, 1680x1050 15.4"

Change CPU multiplier through BIOS editing
              by TuanTongbadcaps
Is there a way to change the CPU multiplier through editing the laptop's BIOS. I have a Latitude 7300 using Intel core I7-8665U CPU which has default multiplier settings between x4.0-x48.0. The problem with the device is that as soon as Windows boots up, the processor temperature is always high (usually in the range of 97-100 degrees Celsius), the multiplier is in the range of x46.0 - x48.0 even though no applications enabled. On a desktop we can change many things related to core voltage, multiplier or base frequency. but on laptop models using U suffix processors this is not available. I would...

the used graphic card is "intel hd graphics" and the id of the integrated screen is : "monitor/SEC3354".
i verified the driver of the péripherals and they are ok. i verified the definition and settings of the graphic card and of the screen : definition 1600x900 and refreshment frequency :60hz. (they are the sames for the graphic card and the screen).
i don't understand the reasons of the white stripe at the bottom of the screen below the task...

              USB problems?
              by Hondaman
Recently I discovered my SSD died (OCZ/Toshiba 240 GB). It was in a USB enclosure, attached to the Linksys WRT-AC1200 router. Since then I removed the USB enclosure and attached it to my Win7 PC (AMD 8150 CPU, 970 chipset, 64 GB RAM). I also gathered one or two other USB enclosures to figure out what is going on.

(I suspect that I lost quite a few MP3 and FLAC files I recently ripped from my audio CDs, I think I lost very little un-replaceable stuff.)

I think it is IMPOSSIBLE for Win7 to have any problems with a USB enclosure as long as Win7 knows how to speak to the...

Lenovo 11e problems (any sata hdds are not recognized, sleep battery drain)
              by clabr
Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Lenovo X13-Yoga Gen 1: hibernation problems
              by rumpumpel1
I have a Lenovo X13-Yoga Gen 1 that has problems with hibernation mode. When the laptop goes to hibernation mode - either via the start menu or after a time-out - after a short period of activity where the power-on LED flashes, the power consumption should go down to almost 0 and the LED should go out. Most of the time, however, the power consumption indicates further CPU activity and the power LED remains on, but there is no image. Sometimes the CPU activity stops after a few minutes, sometimes not at all. If the laptop enters this state, it can only be brought back to life by a long press on...
