Those tracks are totally bare. But my camera cannot focus in any closer.

What about this slimey stuff on the back of the board lol (it looks like dirt/dust on photo) ? I didn't notice it in the dark when I put the PC together btw, but when I looked later in with a spotlight I see the whole board has a sticky stuff with watermarking like washing up liquid.

I'm starting to imagine somebody has put their faulty board in new packaging and somehow I'm the one who's ended up with it.

That could getting a nightmare of RMA, as i doubth theyre do easily belive that this board was dammaged right from the factory.
I have had similar experience with a ECS K7s6A, it has a very minor scratch, i have seen through the ESD safe and sealed packing. But i thought, that this would not be a problems, as it was new and as usual i want to put it in service asap.

After a few hours of no_beep operation and total frustration i have had to get the fact, that i have had absolute no changse to RMA it, as any mechanical dammage is not covered by the warranty, additionally i would have had to bear the testing charge of 50€....if they would have come to the conclusion that i have done it by myself.

Well if returns will cost me more time and money I'd rather just keep it as a museum piece. Other than that it could still work actually I have ordered a kit of components to fully test it. Though the Corsair PSU I ordered was delivered last Tuesday - but wait for it - not delivered to me! Also I found something else I ordered in one of my trashcans this week, the trash was collected last Wednesday, that means if postman put my Corsair in the same bin then it's now in landfill site.

To think some people just go out and buy ready built PC's that work, I've spent more but now I have less alot less. =/

            New parts ordered

            Abit Fatality MB
            *another* Corsair 620W
A few sticks of random DDR2 from ebay.

This is such ashame all these problems, makes me look silly, still I've recapped some stuff recently (Antec PSU, Mercury PSU) and atleast that all works even better than new. (that Mercury is far too noisy btw!) huh.

might as well complain to the shop about the defective board and non delivery of the psu. worth a try.

                Bare Track

Ideally I'd like to repair reinsulate this track, (it doesn't look broken or the cause of the PC not working btw, I'm routing for the problem being a simple hardware incompatibility issue, maybe the board has an outdated bios - whatever - any further testing will be with expandable components on order) but how to do it? should I just spray electrical clear laquer type stuff (from electronics store) or do I need special high temperature non toxic insulation paint. Maybe a simpler solution I can't think of. ??? would I could shave off a slither from elsewhere on the board and glue it on make it look new lol ? superglue work lol ?

Ok new system doesn't work (3rd build failure). Again all the new parts were bought from a different retailer. Theres no diagnosable problem or symptoms to report, it's clear the failures are no fault of my own - I rebuild my slow systems frequently all work fine still (just a bill approaching $4000 fast) - I will finish this my way. Bare traces can sometimes just be test points.
If these are all over the board, it's just a test point and my only recommendation is to have nothing metal touch them.
I also think you might have a bad cpu. Try with another chip.

                        Hi Fizzycapola, all

This really is a sad thing to hear and I guess we all would know that thrustration of something that should work not working

That goo may well have been from a not properly washed PCB, yeah you can get circuit type lacquer for pcbs...Mapes is a big supplier over there and of cause RS components
                        so check them out,

ideally you shouldn't have got a pcb in that state but this is the real world were crap like that happens even thou it shouldn't!.

If I understand you have purchase all new boards but not CPU
if this is the case and the CPU is the only common thing...then yeah its a good bet
but still not good news if it is..suspect its cost an arm and a leg

Is it possible to take the CPU back to were you got it and see if they will test it ( id say exchange it but I'm sure after this time they would give you grief but you can try i suppose...ditto that MB)

I guess your other option is buy a cheap CPU to test with

Or find someone who will let you use there box as a test bed...hummm

Not likely in you case since you have replaced bits
sometimes somethings will just not play together for whatever reason so have you checked or know of a system working with these exact components.
(long shot I know but it does happen)

                        The other is wrong settings
                        or possibly badly seated cards
                        possible bios issues

it seems you have ruled out all of the above
                        and why the "crazed laughter"

Only bright side I can see is that most of the stuff should work ok.
(provided it hasn't been killed by something else...my worst fear)

Sadly this is the real trap for roll you own systems.

At least a shop that builds a system to you spec has to get it working.
sometimes its worth those few dollars just to let them have the headaches...

Anyway mate hoping (in some respects) a new cpu works and all of the rest of the pcbs are ok

                        As to silly? no mate,
I think we all have these moments
when sometimes something should work but for want ever reason doesn't and drives us batty trying to work out why.

BTW thanks Gonzo and Galvinised for clarifying the -5V issue

Thanks for all the support. With the new motherboard, it is not totally dead like the last board, power up happens and onboard diagnostic lights indicate all is ok but no post/no display. But I'm dealing with this piece by piece at the manufacturers troubleshooting forums now. My worst fear is a dodgy component causing damage to things so am taking it really slow. For sure it would be nice to see if the original board I bought actually works, I will try a Celeron on it (was actually my original intention to start the build with expendable cheap components and build it up from there, somehow I made a big mistake not going that route though... I must try to remember my first thoughts are usually the best.) Thanks again for your time, support and advice. I hope my next post on this will be more fruitful.

Here is what I would do.
Step 1. Pull the power supply and test the voltages using the paper clip trick and a DMM.
Step 2. Plug the PSU into the motherboard with NOTHING plugged in except the PC speaker and see if you get any beep codes.
Step 3. Insert CPU repeat for beep codes
Step 4. Insert Ram same thing again
Step 5 Insert video card once again check for beep codes
Step 6 plug in HD and other periphreals.

This is what I ALWAYS do when faced with a problem like this. It allows me to identify the proplem. Piece by piece.

Caution! Socket 775 on that first board is bad. I saw pricks all over the pads on CPU and few did not have contacts made.

Socket 775 is really DELICATE. Did the board came in with socket protector?
And you need to lay the CPU real GENTLY and quietly into that socket. The weight of copper top is enough to bend those contact springs if carelessly dropped in.

I use my laptop as a pseudo PC by just connecting it to my big smart TV and using a wireless keyboard and mouse. I have a sound bar connected to the TV via optical audio toslink cable. I have game consoles connected to the TV. The game consoles and Netflix/other media apps installed on the smart tv all work properly playing sound through my sound bar with no issues. My laptop, until recently, was playing sound through the TV sound bar just fine as well. I don't know what change I made, and I don't...

This was a no power initially. Thanks to your help, I discovered it was the first mosfet, so I replaced. Now, the device will power up only if the battery is NOT connected. As soon as I connect the battery, it shuts off. If I connected the battery while the device is off, it simply will not respond to the power button. I replaced the battery, and while I suppose the new battery could be faulty, I'm assuming it is not. I'm having the same behavior with the new battery. I measure .2v at the charging coil. Manually applying power to the + and - at the battery header, there is no charging happening....

I've got a MacBook Pro 820-2915-A it will power on without the battery connected, but when the battery is connected it will do a 2,3-second fan spin when pressing the power button and then nothing.

After measuring and probing around I found that R7051 was bad, reading high instead of 2.2Ω so I replaced it. Still the same issue, I have the green light on the charger but it won't power on or charge the battery.

So to cut the long story short I've replaced U7000,...

The HDMI port and USB ports were damaged. The HDMI port was replaced by the previous owner, and after his repair, the console worked for 2 days and then became dead. After receiving the console, I replaced all the USB ports. After replacing them, the console started to turn on. On the logo screen, it displays "too many USB devices connected". My further attempts to fix the error involved replacing the Southbridge, 4 TPS2001D chips,...

Hi, I want to ask for advice about an interesting issue I've been having with a sony vaio laptop.

Client came and said that "a desklamp touched the back of the lid while laptop was operating normally and it caused the office's circuit breaker to trip. Laptop had never turned on since".

After taking the laptop apart (checked dc adapter everythin ok), I found a faulty MOSFET on the motherboard which I replaced. Laptop managed to turn on. However, while booting it shut down. Nothing else seemed faulty and thermals were ok. Shutting down was coming at random...
