Can we touch on this subject again? I was considering implementing Link Aggregation into my setup. I was on a 75Mb Comcast connection, which was fine. But was upgraded for free over time to around a 250Mb connection. Then one day they changed something in their architecture and my R7000 kept locking up due to flooding of its ports. I thought I was being targeted and attacked, but it turned out they just changed something. So I threw DD-WRT onto the R7000 and I was back in business. Despite being stable, it wasn't performing the way it used to. So... I turned an old, i7-4770-powered Dell...

Just out of curiosity, could this behavior also be caused by aging relays?...

Wait a second, which things are you suggesting swapping? This is the behavior of the amp with nothing hooked up to the outputs so....

I didn't get to play for more than about 10 minutes today, but when I power the unit on both channels are red, in protection mode, and I hear the relays CLICK. After several minutes I noticed the left channel would erratically cycle back and forth between Green and Red, until it seemed to finally settle a solid Green. The right channel stays in protection mode. I'll dive into it more next week. Sounds like it would be a good idea to re-wet all solder joints.

Ah! Good point. I don't know why this didn't cross my mind.
Thanks!...

Uni-Sync Model 50
Good morning, friends! I saw an old, heat-sink-heavy unit on craigslist yesterday, so I decided to snag it as the owner only wanted $25. He says that one side powers up normally (lights up green), but the other side stays in clipping mode (lights up red). I haven't opened it up, yet. However, I'll post a picture of the guts from another owners unit so you can see what they look like inside. Looks pretty simplistic as it's all single-sided boards and through-hole components. What I am gleaning from my research is the first thing that should be done is the replacement of the large stiffening...1 Photo

Okay, it turns out I was in Quad Channel the entire time, but HWiNFO64 was not recognizing this fact, while CPU-Z does.

Supermicro X10DAX and Quad Channel
So my dilemma is that I can't seem to get my board to run in Quad Channel. I have an X10DAX with Dual E5 2690 v3's and originally it had four 16GB sticks of Samsung ECC. Figuring I needed to have a stick for each DIMM1 slot I purchased four more identical sticks of Samsung M393A2G40DB0-CPB. So, now I have eight 16GB sticks for a total of 128GB of RAM. When I install the ram so that Each DIMM1 slots is populated the system will not post even if I clear the CMOS, remove the battery, what-have-you. But according to what I'm reading in the Manual, which is admittedly not very clear, populating each...

Parasound Zamp v1 - Guess who's coming to dinner
Just picked up this original Zamp. Only hooked it up in place of my Schiit Magni 3 momentarily to see if it functioned. Owner warned me the auto-on-off does not function and the unit must be unplugged to shut off. Has massive hum in both channels. The owner swears it must be a ground loop issue, which I've read they are sensitive to, but after opening the chassis up, I was met by a very uninvited ensemble of guests.
Needless to say I started writing down values and taking measurements and then fired up Digi-Key....

Re: Building a gaming rig for my dad...
Find yourself matching Xeon to make a pair, and find an X10 variety of supermicro board and compete with 9th gen i7's. Plenty of comparisons of Dual E5 systems topping Core series systems. Especially, with games like Battlefield V that scale across all the cores you can give it.

Re: Tell me about mixing ECC
I think you're talking about DDR3, which would be difficult find in those speeds. I'm speaking if 2133 DDR4, which is pretty basic and plentiful.

Re: Tell me about mixing ECC
Sage advice! I'm more interested in rock solid stability and longevity. However, after some conversations and reading up on the Web, it appears that the cases in which running Quad-Channel will actually yield an increase in performance are nothing I will ever do. I see people being proud of the fact that they are running in full Quad-channel on a single processor board, but I see no benchmarks for desktop software that show an increase in performance. It appears that only some obscure server-only software would make use of having to move so much data...

Re: Tell me about mixing ECC
The other ones I'm looking at are RDIMM's, they just aren't the same frequency and CAS latency. I know not to mix RDIMM's and LRDIMM's.

Tell me about mixing ECC
So I'm acquiring an old server with a Supermicro X10DAX board using dual E5-2690 v3's. The previous owner had four 16GB RDIMM's in it, which are all Samsung 2133 CAS15's. I want to have ALL memory channels running so I need to purchase another four sticks. But most of what I'm finding is more along the lines of 2400 CAS17. My understanding of basic systems is the system will run at the higher latency sticks' speed, but I don't know if these servers will be happy with that. It's not that I can't get exactly the same part number sticks, it's just that finding them for a good price is less likely...

Help me understand Mom-On-Off switches
I'm having a bit of trouble sourcing information more specific to Mom-On-Off Switches. I am replacing an old Leon-201 in my magnifying lamp, which is a push-button for starting the ring fluorescent light.
Obviously, this would require the "ON" state to be continuously active even during the "MOM" state, but I can't derive whether this is the case from my reading on the net. It seems logical as I can't imagine any practical use for a switch whose "ON" state would go inactive during "MOM" state, but that's likely a lack of experience.

Windows 10 & Wireless Headphones
So I found my wife a pair of Sony MDR-100ABN's, and we were goofing with them yesterday. She has a new HP Sceptre with Windows 10. I don't know 10 at all so my blood pressure goes up trying to navigate the unruly interface.
I played with lots of settings yesterday, when I was trying to make the headphones connect to the laptop over bluetooth including, the MIC settings since we were playing with the Noice-Cancelling setting on the headphones. I ended up putting the MIC setting back to the Intel default on the laptop, but the output for the headphones.

Re: help with home a/c and circuit breaker
I have been humorous the idea of replacing my breaker as it looks old, and it's not difficult to trip as my entire apartment is a single 20A breaker so if the air conditioning is on, the fridge can run, but if I use the microwave it breaks, if I have the rice cooker or instant pot running with the AC, the microwave will make it break even faster obviously. And naturally all.those kitchen appliances are at the very end of the circuit.
Is there a rule of thumb for good brands to replace breakers with? I'm in California mind you...

Re: Went Kayaking....and it's not what you're thinking! HP XAs Restoration!
I was going to say the same thing. I have a 128MB Radeon 9200, which I believe can run on a AGP 1x/2x board, but its obviously, a totally different era than the Voodoo3. Back then you weren't meant to have an equal amount of video ram to your system ram. XD

Re: Went Kayaking....and it's not what you're thinking! HP XAs Restoration!
I'd probably op for and old Quadro, but AGP Quadros are not high in numbers. Actually, I just remembered I have a Parhelia 128 that should be right at home... I think I have a Voodoo3 AGP if you have trouble locating something.
