hmmm not exactly, I meant people who polish their heatsinks to a mirror finish even though this is non optimal for cooling.

If you need to polish a heatsink to improve cooling, maybe you should think about a better cooler. From my experience the performance main thing is whether the heatsink is milled from a solid block of high quality copper or if it has welded fins it'll be alot worse performance, weight is a good indicator also, more weight more capacity for unwanted heat in the CPU. A possible mistake is to look at size of cooler. Also heatpipes I think maybe a gimmick
with milled copper sink the heat will flow throughout it through the fins easier than having to move between seperate parts welded together. Although I see the industry seems to enjoy promoting all sorts of inferior cooling solutions, maybe they secretly enjoy peoples CPU's being too hot. Globalwin don't appear to have continued making these superior single piece copper sinks anymore also.

Read the pdf on the left.. http://www.easypckits.com/
It is important to note figures of 8 and chamfering the edges. I use full sheets, not 1/4 sheets as he suggests. I have a lapping block but a thick, flat floor tile works very well. Check it for true with a straight edge.
A well used sheet of 400 works well. I bring up some shine by using 800 grit as the last stage of lapping. 220 is needed to cut through anodized sinks, like Zalman NB sinks. I use very soapy warm water...Lots of it and use light pressure.

Very good site for heat sink reviews. Frosty Tech has deep archives, if one is willing to look.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
        by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Seeking Advice on Enhancing Heatsink for Main Processor on SAMSUNG TV Motherboard
        by Ven
        Hello everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade the heatsink on the main processor of my TV's motherboard for better cooling performance.

The current heatsink is a square-shaped one (2.8cm x 2.8cn) with a basic design, and I believe a more efficient heatsink could help with thermal management and potentially extend the life of the TV.

I'd appreciate any advice on the best type of heatsink to use, specific product recommendations, and tips for installation.

If you've done a similar upgrade, I'd love to hear about your experience and any challenges you...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
        by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
        by the_rem
        Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...
