    Re: Whats a good board?

Sorry, shadow.... I didn't bother to look in that thread since I forgot all about it. Anyway.... are Intel boards seriously only around $160AUD?! I normally see them around here for $250+ they seem very expensive here. I'll try to ask the store again tomorrow about cheaper prices instead.

    Thanks.

      Re: Whats a good board?

i was looking at the BOXDP965LTCK which has everything i need including 2 firewire. the intel range is perhaps even more confusing than before......so many boards. its 111 euro which is a very good price. Most of the boards are good price its just the bad axe2 which is expensive.

some of the boards have 1 year warranty though, definitely the oem ones. They look kinda sparsely populated as well....

Plenty of guys at RHCF have had good luck with Asrock boards, they've been playing with them and writing 3rd party bioses for them for a while. No real complaints.

          Re: Whats a good board?

Sorry Stevo1210, it was not exactly $160. The DG965WH is around $180, DG965RY is around $164, DP965LT is around $158. I was getting a bit excited about it being around $160 when there was one for $180. Oh and you are correct, they are OEM motherboards. I did not know how to tell them apart. However I noticed that the model number on the computer store websites state BLK at the start, while the one that willawake posted started with BOX. I guess that is how to differentiate the two.

You should consider trying out a product search engine. The most popular ones here in Australia seem to be StaticICE and ShopBot. StaticICE seems to have many more computer related products in their database.

              Re: Whats a good board?

You could just buy a board for it's chipset and slots aslong as it has atleast 3-phase power. Then with the cost saving apply your own aftermarket cooling. The Asus system appears quite intrusive on the board, if it really needs such a huge heatpipe it doesn't say much for the chips it's cooling.

Of my research for my new machine I originally selected Gigabyte DQ6 rev2 to be ideal.

Although I opted for much cheaper MSI Neo-F (P965)(all white slots revision). I didn't expect good caps at the price but was happy with the Solids around CPU supported by Panasonic FJ and Rubycon MCZ from there down across the south bridge, unimportant regions Teapo Blue.

Can't comment though as haven't managed to reach post yet.

Next board I bought is brand new on the market at the time of purchase there weren't even any previews of it, based on brand new nforce chipset (vroom vroom), Fatality IN9 (nforce 650i) it's like a who's who of all the best capacitors on here. Once again price for very very reasonable also compared to other boards in it's performance class.

Reached post with this but not with the Geforce 8, man I wonder what you need to reach post with a Geforce 8. =`(((

Willawake, thanks for the suggestion on that board. I'm currently looking at the same one.... I like the firewire features on it....

I had a look at some prices around here and it costs about $249AUD, which is pretty expensive for a motherboard.... My Gigabyte GA-8i945P-G only cost $150. But I have seen a few places which offer this motherboard for less than $200AUD. I have to check it out with my computer store if they even have this model available, if they have it, i'll probably have to haggle on the prices.

This is true for the OEM series of motherboards, I think that the boxed editions come with a 3 year warranty. I'll have to check again on that.

I just hope that the computer I shop at can get me an Intel motherboard, the person there said they could from thier supplier.... But model wise, i am not too sure.

                Thanks.

Update, just been reading about this board I recommended - Abit IN9, ok now there is alot of feedback on the net, apparently it's a partially buggy board (albeit nowhere near as buggy as a DFI according to one reporter & it's crap for overclocking past 3.6Ghz & 400MhzFSB).

I hope you do better with your purchases.

                    Hello Everyone,

I haven't been back here for a while since im on 56K dial-up internet because we decided to convert from standard ADSL to ADSL 2+ so it's going to take a few days for my ISP to convert my phone line to ADSL 2+.
Going back to dial-up internet is like going into the stone age since it is very slow and the connection always drops out.

Anyway with internet issues aside I have been talking to the computer shop through the course of the past week about Intel motherboards.
I checked the shop and they don't have Boxed Intel motherboards.... they only have OEM boards.... unfortunately. I also checked many other shops with the same result.... none of them have boxed Intel motherboards.

Right now i'm deciding to buy the Intel BLKDP965LTCK motherboard. I haven't ordered it yet.... I will probably decide soon. This is this OEM version of the Intel BOXDP965LTCK so they are probably the same quality wise. The OEM version only has a 1 year warranty though. The board costs $195AUD from the store i am with....

                    Thanks.

                      Re: Whats a good board?

                      Hello Everyone,

Well, yesterday I went up to the PC store again and I'm reconsidering my idea on the Intel motherboard. This Intel motherboard only has 1 year warranty and it is too expensive and definitely not worth it for a P4 530J.

So I had a look at some other boards. I'm looking at the Asus P5LD2-SE motherboard which is only $155AUD and the MSI 945P Neo3 (I think thats what it is called, but it is definitely an MSI with an Intel 945P chipset and also it was red) The MSI mainboard also supports Core 2 Duo which is a bonus.

The PC shop worker said that MSI boards have 3 year warranty, 1 year with the shop, then 2 years after that with MSI. MSI even have a service center here which we can send our faulty equipment to.

I really like the Asus motherboard but how does the warranty go for Asus motherboards?? Some places say 3 year, some say 1 year. I am confused about that.

What I really want to know is the quality of MSI motherboards. Are they good or bad?? They seem to use all Rubycon, KZG and Panasonic caps now. I can remember how they used Chhsi caps back a few years ago.

And also, just an update, I got my Internet service back. ADSL2+ is very fast compared to normal 256K DSL. Apparently ADSL2+ runs at speeds of up to 24mbps, but the highest I got to was about 10mbps. But still, I am happy with it.

                      Thanks.

                        Re: Whats a good board?

                        Hi Stevo1210

Well after a bit of searching it appears to be 3 years....Asus MB HERE

A shopping site in Aust said same, but I would confirm this with whom ever you buy from.... if you have to,
stress this is one of the reasons your buying it and see if they will sign off on it...if in doubt.

Me well apart from badcaps I think if you are going to have issues they will probably show in the first year of abuse anyway.

But why not if you can get 3 years

As to MSI ASUS which build or are better?...... really don't know, as I said I would go Asus but thats me and thats only from what I read of the higher end boards.

OK going off Topic here but in reply

Now ADSL2 which I cant get Thanks Telstra/ gov I dont care which just pull your finger out

ACCC has told ISp's to stop pushing the 24MB crap cause you arent going to get there...well more or less said that

And like ADSL1 it depends on a lot of factors to what you are going to get at your place.

From what I understand of the ADSL2+ spec, it would be in an isp's best interest to get it out there and happening....

For you Folks around the world who are wondering what all the fuss is...well braodband is starting to be know in Oz as Fraudband.

we have only just had adsl1 taken to 8M it was capped at 1.5M/256k
(for supposedly the reason above...most would get nowhere near the 8Mb max)

Your were on 256K/64? ....bet you noticed the difference

me 1.5/256 so you can see why I want to get the most bangs for bucks but a move to adsl2 from 1 can work against you so I read......

                        Cheers

                          Hello Everyone,

Well I finally got around to order my new mainboard yesterday after a few months without a PC. I ordered the Intel BOXD965LTCK motherboard. It seems like a nice motherboard with all good caps and a large full size ATX form factor.

At the time when I first looked at it it was around $249. Now when I finally order it, it is only $150.... Thats a $100 decrease in only a matter of months.

And I only have to pay an extra $60 for it as a trade in for the junk Gigabyte board.

Hopefully this board will serve me well for the years to come.

                          Thanks.
