Burning 24 DVDs, how long to wait between each disc?

I'm burning 24 DVD+Rs (each 100% full) at 16x, and I don't want to burn out my laser diode (they usually overheat and fail at about disc 4-8 if done back-to-back, killed 2 this way before). How long should I wait between discs for it to cool down?

maybe after 3 just wait 15 minutes, another 3, wait 15 minutes, etc. It should cool down pretty quickly

just dvds on a modern burner? I wouldn't think any time should matter

I think I'll do that. Thank you! (I'll let you know if it survives. I hope it does)

First time I have heard of this, I have burned around 100 disks non-stop a few times before and the burner is still running.

It probably varies from drive to drive. Try checking any datasheets for your drive, and see if it has anything about disc burning.

I've killed both a Lite-On iHAS324 and an older TSST drive this way. They died in the middle of the disc (I believe the 7th disc in both cases) and the burning program gave a "Track Following Error". My grandfather also killed a Lite-On LH-20A1P. None of them would read DVDs afterward, and the LH-20A1P wouldn't read anything. I wanted to be careful because this drive is a rebadged Lite-On iHAS324, and I don't have the money to replace it.

Here is the only mention of this problem that I could find online:

Try a different brand of mediums.
Check the power supply, the drive might not get enough power.
The computer vibrates to such an extent that the laser can not stay in the track. In particular if an optical drive is being used as the source device.
The device has become hot, try to operate in cool condition.
Clean the lens of your drive, it might have become dirty.
If all of the above did not help, check additional information.
They don't mention burning discs making the drive hot, nor do they say that that kills the drive, but I swear I've had it happen.

Sigh... can anyone say with a straight face "burn 3 discs at 16x and then wait 15 minutes" ?!

16x burns a disc in.. like... 4 minutes... it's usually not even x16 but rather 8x, 10x, 12x, 16x ... getting faster as it advances on the disc, if the disc is reliable.

Just write at 8x or 10x, you'll finish the disk in about 6-8 minutes. Then just leave the disk tray open for about 10-30 seconds and it will cool down enough.

I ended up doing more or less that (I actually just waited 3-5 minutes after each disc for about the same amount of cooling), and the drive seems to have survived.

TSST is Lite-On now? Those HL-DT-ST (Hitachi-LG) drives never give me any problems though.

Re: Burning 24 DVDs, how long to wait between each disc?

When I did a lot of DVD burning, I never waited and I never had a problem with burnt out lasers.

My primary unit was a Pioneer DVR-109 (it cost me $100). I must have burned over 400 DVDs. I also made an effort to stick with high quality DVD media like made in Japan TY blanks.

Today, when I get "broken/non working" computers almost everyone leaves the DVD burner in them so I have 3 or 4 "spare" now although I burn very few DVDs now-a-days.

thats funny, I got the 108, still burns great to this day. Was rather expensive back in the day

you can get a $19 asus burner now a days and i'm not sure who the 'real' manufacturer is but I have had few customers have trouble with any of them

                                          Good Afternoon fellas,

                                          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
                                          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
                                          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
                                          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

                                          Question:
                                          I...

                                          Hey....

Board as written in description was stuck at VGA LED. common Problem wit these type of bords.... tried all the "standard stuff" like resettin... reseatin.... found out the LED Controller MCU1 = IT8295FN-56A geting burning hot under the last PCI Slot.. now i desoldered it cause there were only 18 ohms at the caps arround.... another aorus x470 in working condition with similar part and nearly same layout had arround 280 ohms...

my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can´t understand...

It wont work on ITE_ADAPTER_V1.5 board (IT8580, IT8586, IT8587 work when soldered on board)

                                          Please help.

I tried with cable for keyboard it does not work either (Laptop is G750JZ)

                                          Hello to all.

I have this Sony Vaio QUANTA HK1 DA0HK1MB6E0 MBX-247 that is burning the NUVOTON EC when you connect it to power supply.

                                          1) The +3vpcu line is going to a direct short after connecting the motherboard to power supply.
                                          2) I discovered the EC NUVOTON was shorted. After removing it the short gone out on that line (+3vpcu) but... (If i quit the EC the 3.3v are pressent on +3vpcu because the shorted component was quited)
                                          3) There were no shorts after soldering the new EC NUVOTON. But after connecting the board to power supply the EC keeps burning...

Can I replace a ceramic disc cap with a multilayer ceramic cap? I cant even find .047 uf disc caps at digikey, mouser or newark. The places I do find them want anywhere from 25c to $3 each, at any quantity, plus shipping....
