Hi guys, I hope it is OK to hijack this thread.
I saved an E6320 from the scrap heap, Story it was -put in a docking station, and killed the laptop (We know if was a docking station as someone managed to kill 2 other laptops the same way).
Anyways the battery wont charge pretty much the same as the title. I did narrow down to a SMSC MEC 5055 LZY chip getting very hot when plugged into the mains, Also there is a scorch mark and even melted a bit plastic from a wire onto it.

Yes, All of them replaced, the capacitor in question is a KXG model, the other new capacitors are cheng.
Testing of other capacitors check out okay, the KXG model is the only one that seems out by a margin.Leave a comment:

Okay, So i built my Arduino Capacitance meter, One of the capacitors, which is the 100uf 450v one, shows as only 81uf - Could this just be another faulty cap?Leave a comment:

The back light connectors are funnily enough the same as my Proview monitor, I wonder if I could use the power supply board to power the back light screen itself, to eliminate the actual back light being broken.Leave a comment:

New tester arrived today, went though what that video did, but the inverters are fine, I have continuity though both of them
One thing i noticed is that one of the outputs which is for 12v, shows 13.5v when on power. Is this normal or is this the issue?
Just a note also, When connected to the power, and screen comes one, as i said you hear a funny noise (similar to the old snowy picture noise on old TV's but low volume) which happens for 2 seconds, Once the screen goes off it goes away.

Had the same issue with the other power supply, Monitor would not switch on,
I then looked to take out the hair drying, a 10 second burst inside the monitor, made it all warm, and then switched on with no problems. Not even interference through the screen.Leave a comment:

Had a look in the adapter, caps all look perfectly fine, got some weird copper paper shield around everything.
I think I have a power supply with the same rating, I might try that and see how it goes with the monitor.Leave a comment:

ProView CY-765 Monitor takes many tries to turn on.
I have had this monitor since 2004, and never given me any bother until now.
(with PC running - and does it with other PC also).
When I press the power button, the orange light changes to green, you hear a short click, and then the light goes back to orange. (same light as stand by). I press the power button about 20-30 times before the screen finally comes on, and when it does it is perfectly fine (using it now)
Once it has been on for a while, I can turn off the monitor and put it on again with no problems,

Ignore the part where i say boom, it's Scottish slang, i have a habit of forgetting to leave it out. I will start a new thread about the other monitor.
As I said the monitor goes off after 2 seconds, but what i have noticed is that the power LED remains on after the screen goes back off.
What I have also notices after trying to switch it on and off for about 10 times, when i did it once, there was a weird buzzing from the monitor, and then it went off once the screen went off again....Last edited by thestigp11gt; 11-13-2013, 07:01 AM.Leave a comment:

My current monitor is being a pain in the backside, as it takes about 20-30 hits to get the screen to come on. I was then given Phillips 170B monitor, however the monitor did sit in a shed for 4 years, which meant temperatures were down to -10*c and potentially dampness
Anyway I got it, let it get to room temperature (infact was about 3 metres from a radiator for a full day), I plugged it in, and the screen came on, for around 2 seconds and then went back off.
Done the usual search on Google, and suggested that the caps were probably done, The old caps were CapXon ones,...Last edited by thestigp11gt; 11-13-2013, 06:57 AM. -

I may just keep the TV and source parts if and when they come up for a good price, Just seems a shame to break it as cosmetically in good condition.
I agree I can't see the screen causing these issues,
I might just get a new Y Main, X Main, Y buffer bit by bit, re-assemble and hope it works.Leave a comment:

I spoke to the shop I purchased the part from, and they have agreed to refund the money but suggested it is not worth fixing. They seems to think the screen itself has gone which is popping the board.
