It's heat resistant plastic IIRC. Won't melt at the temperatures used for soldering/reworking, but if you overheat it, then it will melt. Most onboard connectors and slots are like that too.Comment

Hi there,
Can anybody recommend a source of good quality DIP sockets please? I'm getting mine from Ebay and they feel very flimsy. If I plug a previously desoldered chip, the sockets get permanently deformed and the pins to solder through the PCB are very, very flimsy...

Hi guys
You can see the attached pic - the QFN is faulty and needs changing. It is closer than 1cm to the DIMM sockets and of course I must not damage these
So.... best suggestions and techniques please. Desolder and Resolder. I have some thoughts myself but don't want to distort the responses... -

So I have TUF Z390 mobo with a bit of the grey thermal paste in the LGA 1151 socket right near one edge. probably from when the clamp was fastened down without a CPU fitted, and there was a bit of paste on the clamp.
The motherboard actually works fine (you can see there is no thermal paste on the ends of the pins themselves), but it would be nice to clean it out.
I've done a bit of googling and found suggestions from using this stuff....

One idea have is to use it as multimeter data logger which I already have the meter for this purpose
Another I use as a music listening device for music that has been purchased
Or doing both idea
