Now here's an interesting OEM motherboard.. ;-) Guess who made it???

This board is an OEM model, for a major brand PC manufacturer, for what should be a common pc.

The board has a 3 phase VRM, with some excellent quality caps, that looks more like a server board VRM than a desktop one..

    All in all.

    VRM input (12V input) 5X 820uF Rubycon ZL 25V

VRM output (Vcore) 7X 820uF Sanyo Oscon SP, 4.0V
    2X 4700uF Nichicon HD, 6.3V

    Other caps of note:

    2X 1000uF Rubycon MBZ 10V
    1X 1500uF Panasonic FJ 6.3V

The balance of the caps on the board are Teapo and OST.

So, anybody care to guess what OEM this is, and what type of system it goes in??

Looks kind of like a Foxconn-made board. (Foxconn, while not good at PSUs, makes very high quality motherboards, typically for OEMs.)

Since it's Socket 462 it's safe to say it ain't Intel. So.... how about... errr... Hewlett-Packard (OEM Foxconn)? Not long ago I bought an HP Vectra VLi Coppermine motherboard which looked very similar and also used Nichi HD, Rubycon YXG and some other good caps. (That board was also a Foxconn-made board.)

I can't really guess the formfactor of the board (half the board is missing in the pics it looks like) but I'll tale a roughshot guess and call it MicroATX.

I'll probably be the only person going to SteamOS once it gets out of beta (ha ha.)

Agree with kc8adu. My MSI slot a board is all Rubycon except for 5 Sanyo and 2 oscon under the processor.

Agree with both of the above, since UL E203413 gives it away.

Seriously though, MSI does tend to use some of the better cap brands, particularly when compared to other standard "desktop" board manufacturers. Of the two MSI boards we have here at home, we have a KT6V and a Neo2, whose CPU VRMs bear, respectively, all panasonic and UCC.

No matter what caps were used, the Neo2 was a worthless POS board. The ASUS A8V was 100x better in terms of stability. I think the A8V had nichions, panasonic and UCC caps on it.

The only MSI I have is a MS6163 ver.2 (Slot 1) from about '99, loaded with JPCONs, but that hardly counts. From what I hear from owners of newer MSIs though, they're good stable boards, but often with some annoying quirks.
You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.
Why I don't buy cheap cases!

Yup, you guys are right, it's an MSI motherboard. It came from a Compaq Presario 6000 series.. Quite a nice board, for a Compaq OEM board anyway..

yes but a row of oscon on vrm then they put an OST?
                  some teapo......
                  could be worse i guess.

Could be worse - e.g. mixing Sanyo with Choyo (GigaByte) or Nichicon with Chhsi (MSI too IIRC).

Exactly what i was thinking.. I mean they could have probably done the whole board in Rubycon MBZ if they hadn't put the Oscon's on it.. NOt that i'm ripping on the Oscon's, but they do cost a good bit more than regular electrolytics.

i think the taiwan mobo maker dont want to make a board with total japanesse caps on it. they want to put a "made in taiwan" sign/label somehow somewhere so there goes the ost and teapo
