Re: Hard drive from a pvr
Unless you want to recover some of the recordings on the drive, I would try a stand-alone disk utility. I would recommend the GParted Live CD, just delete all partitions, create a new partition table, and create new partitions:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
Make sure you are working on the correct drive. Maybe even go as far as unplugging all other hard drives before you boot the Live CD.Leave a comment:

Re: Hard drive from a pvr
I looked around. Here's another thread on this forum:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18402
(I did not know there was an ATA locking mechanism in any official standard. Wow.)
Apparently, "Bell", "Humax" and "Pansat" come up in google results, so this was sold under multiple brands. I think your chances of finding a solution are very good.
My first guess was "maybe there is NO partition table at all" like older Apple stuff (maybe OSX finally started requiring a partition table, I don't know). A proprietary file system would also make sense (Windows wouldn't recognize it).
Let us know how it turns out, and good luck!Last edited by Hondaman; 09-23-2012, 12:01 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Hard drive from a pvr
I can't believe there is no discussion on this. I am sure there are others who wanted to use these drives rather than throw them out. I know there are a lot of smart people out there who know how. I do own the unit bought and paid for, just not supported by the service provider anymore.Leave a comment:

Hard drive from a pvr
I have a 250 gig hard drive from a 9200 pvr that I would like to uses as an external drive but I can't Initialize the drive. Are these drives locked and unusable in a pc? This drive will show up in disk management only but I am unable to do anything with it. What is up with this.Last edited by davg; 09-20-2012, 08:17 PM.Tags: None

by federalhouseHi everyone,
I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.
**Background:**
I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.
**What I've Tried So Far:**

by tmcwA friend gave me his old PC case (with MB, and PSU), but no hard drive rails, he said he only used the 2.5" SSD spot inside, and used an external hard drive for data. He said that he'd have a look for the supplied rails, but I doubt he'll find them.
So I was wondering if case manufacturers used any type of standard 3.5" hard drive rail?
I'm used to the various Dell hard drive caddies or rails (and HP and Lenovo to a lesser extent), or el cheapo cases where you screw through the frame to fix the drive.
Now, the case is a CiT Gaming Case, and...-

i recently bought a new wd re4 2tb with 2014 datecodes. when i got around to testing it tho in victoria hd tester, the write speed was very slow at 14 mb/s with a 256 sector transfer size. when i increased the transfer size to 1024 sectors, the write speed increased slightly to 44 mb/s. read speeds and sector verify speeds were fine and at normal speeds.
so i just ass-u-med the drive's poor performance was due to it being an advanced format drive and i was using it on winxp. when i tried cloning my system disk to this wd re4 2tb drive and writing to it in linux, the write speed...-
