    DVI to VGA cable

At work I have a monitor that has a hard wired VGA cord as the only input, and my new PC only has DVI. I have one of the adapters, but I hate how it makes the plug stick way off the back of the PC. Do they have those adapters in a pigtail cable type, around 6" long or so?

I did find one for a Mac on Ebay, but I'm not sure if it would work on a PC.

You mean something like this ?

    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/gold-pl...cm-cable-26413

    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/gold-pl...cm-cable-26416

I've bought stuff from the store above, it's cheap chinese stuff but ok quality - can't really go wrong with a simple cable. They're sent from Hong Kong though, so it may take up to 2 weeks to get them.

You could also just get a DVI male to female cable, basically use it like an extension and use the adapter you have somewhere under the desk where it doesn't bother you.

However, pay attention when buying to get DVI-I: there must be four pins around that - on the side of the connector, those four pins transmit the analogue signal. Most cables have just the digital part nowadays.

      Re: DVI to VGA cable

      yes they do.

there is a touch panel the robotics team i men tor on uses for presentation booths that has one. sadly, the computer has dvi only and the cable is routed through metal frame channels so there essentially is a a dvi to vga adapter at both ends (I have an extra DVI cable that i might swap in).

      it is an elo touchscreen.

edit- avoid dealextreme. they sell fake capacitors (as proven in a recent thread). if you are BCN member, I doubt you want to give your money to people who sell the fakes.

Yes, I've seen that thread. I don't condone what they did by selling fakes but they have a ton of odd cables and connectors and adapters and all sorts of things that are hard to find in other places.

In addition, whatever I ordered was exactly as in the pictures, that's the main reason I recommended the store.

Don't want to come off as advertising them but i did check amazon.com and monoprice.com before and they were all DVI-D ... Try also ncix.com, newegg.com... don't know other US stores as I'm living in Central Europe.

          here:

          http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...-I-VGA&cat=CBL

(it is an adapter, yes, but this is of the shallower type. may be too wide if you use a dualhead setup)

that would be an improvement if your adapters are like this:

          http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...AMF-DT&cat=CBL

(these are narrow enough for a dualhead but stick out a lot.)

          btw, dualhead= twin displays.

            Re: DVI to VGA cable

There are three common kinds of DVI.
VGA only works with two of them.
            .
Check what your video card puts out.
            .
            * DVI-D (digital only, both single-link and dual-link) <---- Not VGA compatible
            * DVI-A (analog only) <---- VGA compatible
            * DVI-I (integrated - digital and analog) <---- VGA compatible
            .

I've never seen a short adapter, but you can get a regular 6 foot cable to replace the monitor cable:

              http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orde...les.com&rcode=

              http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...t=1#largeimage

I've ordered from both places before, and have had good experiences with both stores. As mentioned, the cable will only work with DVI-A or DVI-I connectors. That said, if it works with the adapter, it will work fine with the cable.

that's the cable I remember. monoprice is a bit steep on shipping sometimes, so if one needs to get any ethernet plugs or whatever, buy it in one order to save on shipping.

I get them in 5 or 10 packs to throw in with mobos I sell that only have DVI.
My current stash has Dell PN: J0791.
They only have the DVI-A pins but they fit and work in DVI-I jacks just fine.
There are probably other Part Numbers and versions.

OK, this one dates back to 2015! I thought I had posted this, but realized I didn’t when I posted a picture of something else. So here it goes…

Back in 2015, I bought a pair of RCA WHP141 wireless headphones at Micro Center for $2. I even mentioned it in the best cheap/free scores thread right here. Just forgot to follow up with that.

As mentioned back then, these are (were) 900 MHz FM wireless headphones. No modern day Blutooth or anything like that. I knew they wouldn’t be great headphones or even that good… but the price was right! So let’s take...

                      Cable Repair
                      by Patch2
I have a broken connector (believe it's a 6 pin mini-DIN) on a cable. The metal shroud and all but one of the pins are separated from the cable, and just stuck together for the photo. The other end is an unknown rectangular connector. The cable is for the foot pedals on an Italian made electronic piano, and the company is out of business. Looking for ideas on how to fix it. I have a soldering iron, but I'm not very skilled at soldering, so getting a retrofit for the broken end may be beyond my ability. The other end would be easier to replace, if I could get a mini-DIN cable with the same number...

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                      Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                      First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

While at university, I connected my HP-Pavilion x360 14-dw0156ng laptop, running Windows 10, to a monitor using a provided USB-C cable. Immediately after this, my laptop's screen turned black and the device stopped working entirely. There are no signs of life such as fan noise or LED indicators, holding the power button does nothing. I've previously used this same monitor model and cable without issues, the cable typically charges the laptop as well.
I've attempted holding the power button for over 30 seconds, removing and reinserting the battery, and trying to power it on with only the...

                      by paparazzo79
                      Hi guys.
I purchased the monitor from the link below:
                      https://www.hannspree.eu/product/ht-273-hpb/
Since I will be using monitor from bed, I'd need longer usB type A to type B plug cable.
I got one which is 4.5m long, regular one
May I use it without harm to the monitor?
I suppose cable which came with monitor is regular type A to type B,not some speical cable.
I could picture what is labeled on the cable, if it matters for assistance.
