Had a for parts machine that I thought bringing back to life. Had a ASRock P4VM890, Delta DPS-300PB-2A and a VIA USB2 card.

I hope NOBODY has to live the hell I had to go through cleaning the PSU. Sweet Jesus Christ, I don't think I had a PSU smell that bad of nicotine and have so much dust.

I cleaned out the dust now. It still smells a bit (generally when warm) but it's mostly gone.

    There was worse:

At Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, in Greenfield, New Hampshire, in horticulture class, the horticulture office PC got mouse'd! There was a mouse living in the PC case! (the early-2000s or the late-1990s) sadly, 99 percent, it was a deer mouse/white footed mouse. (and that means risk of American-hantavirus, the same one responsible for the 1993 hantavirus outbreak!)

Take a look at the photos this gives a better idea of how bad it is, this is the power connector to the Y sustain board , it would have been white when it came out the factory, the other photo shows the plug disconnected.
I just puked in my mouth.

I know detergent does get used to clean out boards. I know a mechanic that made a huge ton of money fixing car computer boxes after a flood and was laughing his ass off since he charged people the standard price, but all he did to fix the computer boxes was to soap them with detergent, rinse and dry.

Anyway, thanks for the guide. My father is a heavy smoker and I've been seeing nicotine gunk on my motherboard and card.

This is great info, I wish I'd known about it back in the day. I used to be a pretty heavy smoker (and drinker) - I'd get drunk and blow smoke in to the front intake of my PC case to watch it come out of the back

That PC stopped working, and I wondered why...

Yuck, that looks like what my family's late-1990s IBM (Pentium 133) (Aptiva C32) looked like and I cleaned it... My father was a heavy smoker at the time.....

Both my father and mother were heavy smokers in the late-1990s and early-2000s.....

i use the stuff you wash dishes with,
you cant use just water because it wont remove anything other than loose dust.

First time I washed a G31 entry level Gigabyte with the battery. It worked fine post wash. However since then I take the battery and the south bridge heatsink out before washing the board not because of the risks being discussed here but to get a better wash. Just washed one 2 days ago.

had a gm trailblazer cluster a customer bought at a yard to replace one lost in the mail.they sent it to some place online and it vanished into the bermuda triangle.
he found out i fixed these and bought the junkyard unit.it was sticky, stinky, and a golden color!
dead too.steppers are shot on all these so right into the sink everything went.
the film preserved everything nicely.looked new when i was done.
now i have to detail the rest of the damm car to match that cluster!
at least this cluster didnt have live roaches in it like i have seen before.
who the hell lets roaches infest a 2 year old caddilac?

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board
    by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
    • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
    • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

    Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

    by Hakuu
    Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

    More Details
