    Re: Compaq EVO D510 POWER SUPLY PROBLEM

    Given this is a SFF mobo and that it is probably the original board, the Nichicons are in the 'bad' date code range. According to wiki, these were built across three model years, ending in 2003.
    Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.

        hey, i think d510 sff isnt far from what 530 sff is, you might want to take a look at the posts ive put on the bad motherboards section by model, d530sff have the Asus P4SD board (dont know bout d510 and ur pics didnt help)... as for the psu looks like is not the same, which is good (d530s have a really really crappy psu), what is its model?

        i didnt quite get this: did you try to read the values with the PSU on and running? u got nothing but psu's fan was running? remember you need a load to get those values from sff, or plug everything regarding the psu+mobo and try to read for the other pins available or (better yet) from the psu itself while attached to the mobo. If you urgently need to get a standard micro-ATX format mothebroard with a blown PSU up and running quickly, you can always connect a standard ATX PSU. Make sure you connect the ATX12v connector - a lot of people forget this - otherwise the system won't boot. You can leave the 'fan command' cable connected if you're leaving the old PSU attached. Without the connection, the system will complain about it when booting.

        if you take any advise: recap the whole motherboard asap. it might solve ur situation.-

        peace.

          The model of the PSU = HP-U176WF3

          i read the values without the psu connected at all to the mother board

            im not familiar with that psu model, and if you took the reads like that (unplugged from anything but AC) those might be then not appropiate reads, try to follow what i also suggested -easy way, imo- or check out the notes on the link you were given as for the pin-outs....

                MXM,

                i read the voltages with the PSU connected to the board and the system power button pressed, here is the result. I connected the ( - ) probe of Multimeter to the casing of the CPU and use the ( + ) probe to do the readings.

                pin - voltages
                1 = +3
                2 = -12
                3 = +1
                4 = +2.4
                5 = +5
                6 = 0
                7 = +12
                8 = +3
                9 = +3
                10 = 0
                11 = +5
                12 = 0
                13 = +5
                14 = 0

                compared to these values what does these reading indicate?

                        Re: Compaq EVO D510 POWER SUPLY PROBLEM

                        Wow, I haven't seen one of those in a while.

                        H&R Block used those in their training rooms around here. (or at least they did when I worked there) They're notorious for doing exactly what happened here- Caps go bad, blow out or the thing just won't POST one day. "Desktop" and "Tower" models.

                        I've only ever worked on two with good caps. 4 training rooms x30 PC's + spare parts closet with ~50+ units. Even when everything looked alright, they still wouldn't POST.

                        Not sure if that's helpful or not. Just figured I'd let you know my experiences with 'em.

                        Also. Unit shut down while in use, then won't boot properly afterwards. I know you said you did some troubleshooting, but could you post exactly what you did?

                        Try disconnecting all power from the motherboard, then pop the CMOS battery out for a bit?

                            first step
                            i disconnected all attached deviced and powerd on, nothing happens
                            second
                            i reset the cmos battery by removing, and replaced it, nothing happends
                            third
                            i tested the psu to make sure its ok, but nothing still happens
                            now
                            i recap the caps close to the pse, nothing happengs

                            wha else ca i do?

                              Did you disconnect the PSU from the motherboard while the CMOS battery was out?

                              Give it 60 seconds or more just to be safe. Just trying to rule out the simple things. It fits the symptoms for a few different problems. This being the easiest one to fix.

                              I just realized how old this post is. Sorry, didn't see that it was already recap'd. Hrm.

                                  Well, it shouldn't work. That's assuming you pulled the cmos battery during the recap, which means this step was already redone.

                                      Re: Compaq EVO D510 POWER SUPLY PROBLEM

                                      hey, well if you asked me, i think ur problem is not your PSU unless you dont get nice +5VSB, (i had found some other hp sff -dx5150- where the problem was the PSU not being able to boot up (switch on) when attached to the mobo (and still throwing acceptable voltages at its pins) and i easily after identified this issue -afterwards- as a PSU issue when i realized the +5vsb led on the mobo wasnt clearly and steady on, and i could even hear some strange noise coming from the PSU, [a recap and some regulators changing and it was it] so if its not your case, it might be something else) so my best next suggestion would be try to recap the whole motherboard, your PC's board. sometimes recap isnt enough, but sometimes that is all it needs.

                                      hope it helps.

                                      good Luck!

Absolutely nothing works as LED'S neither any fans! I try to find a power supply testing method for this type of specific power supply and I have found absolutely nothing! Do you have a solution for me?
