Re: Where did all the floppy disks go?
I use them constantly at work for imaging and bios updates but then again my servers are from 2001 and won't boot off of a usb drive and no one has been able to get ghost to properly work on a cd (very very old version of ghost that we are licensed for)

Re: Rant: Glossy screens
I agree with you about glossy screens here at work they are especially bad with all of the fluorescent lights the glare is terrible. At home it isn't so bad because it is much darker the glare isn't as noticeable.

Re: my raid 1 array has been running with a dead drive for 3 years now!
OP your fine if it's been dead that long and you haven't had any issues your other drive is fine. personally I have to pay attention to my raids very closely I have a hard drive that is immenint failure over 100 miles away today that someone is running for. Can't risk data loss in my profession.
RD try out 3dm2 it should work on your card I don't remember the version you are running

Re: What paint to use
When i paint a laptop I use krylon plastic primer. I can't remember the real name for it. I scuff down the laptop lid clean it well with a tack cloth, spray primer a couple of coats let it dry and set for 48 hours... which is overkill. Then I use krylon paint to paint it the color i want 3 or 4 coats of a hard clear coat. I have great results that have held up for a couple of years without scratching other then paint wear on the corners of the laptop from being in a bag for most of it's life.
Yes i have done car paint but only on desktops I am...

Re: the crap administrators have to deal with!
Don't have the ability to disable the option it's a simple desktop motherboard with pretty much no options. I will check out that dongle thats a great idea Thank you for that one. I have monitoring software on all of the machines that I manage called whatsup. Thankfully I have that much the people that use these servers have a fit when they are down and for good reason. Stores get pretty upset when they have problems with the programs that are running on those servers.
I also use openmanage to monitor the other 225 servers...

Re: the crap administrators have to deal with!
There is no remote tool that tells me I just guess if the computer is turned on and not in the OS that someone at the remote site has to plug in a USB keyboard and hit F1 sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Re: the crap administrators have to deal with!
mine is a pain in the ass but in a different way. I have 100 remote servers that have no mouse keyboard or monitor kind of hard to get past an error that says strike F1 to continue.

no you can't turn the feature off I wish I could I wouldn't have a stack of 500gb green drives sitting here at my office.

Re: OC'ing a Q6600
I would try speedfan just to be positive on your temps I would also check the event viewer if it gives you any clue as to why it is blue screening in the first place. Do you have your memory and processor unlinked in the bios if i remember you unlink them before overclock on that board otherwise you are messing with the ram also. Sorry I can't be much more help then that....

Re: Hard drives from pvr's?
It can but I don't think it would be much the green drives "park" themselves

Re: What did you buy on black friday?
I figure it this way people pay me to support their computers. I need to at least learn the operating system that they are going to be using in the future. I am not saying i am shovenose and loving it. Just that I need to learn it.

Re: Latitude D830 got soaked
I repaired a laptop similar to this. An exchange student spilled a beer on a laptop I used rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush and scrubbed it down and it booted but it took a long time i had to pull every key from the keyboard also and scrub the switches because they were sticking because of beer.
