    Re: Teapo

I've only ever seen one PSU with Rulycon (and yes, they were bulged). I've come accross lots of Sacon caps before, and I think they would definitely have to be the worst.

Those have 10 mm Teapo caps on the VRM high side close to the CPU where it's very hot and 8 mm smaller Teapo caps scattered around the board, some in fairly hot areas, others not so much. Except for 1 or 2 systems, all of the other systems appear to have their 10 mm Teapo capacitors fine. On the other hand, more than 3/4 of those systems have bad (bulging) 8 mm Teapos.
You could be on to something with the 8mm caps. I've seen a few 10mm teapos go bad in PSUs before, but the 8mm ones always seem to go first. However, my general opinion of teapo remains. I still consider them a junk brand.

The ones that I've been replacing have been 10mm. I think my failures have been heat related though. Just an estimate from what I've seen, but I'd say 50% of them have gone bad after 3-4 years of near continuous use. Link to my original thread. At the time I posted that thread, only the ones closest to the heat sink were failing. In the year after that we've seen all of the positions having failures.

Personally I've only seen Rulycon in a KME PSU from 2000, and they were all tiny caps around 47uF 50V, they're probably completely dried out. From what I've seen on this forum I think even CapXon/Evercon are better than Rulycon.

I was surprised to find Teapo here. Most of the times the best caps available in electronic stores are Lelon... I like Teapo. They can be decent if you know how to use them. For example, I wouldn't put Teapo at 5vsb output filter. Those are the caps that fail more often.

Most caps you buy here at 'radioshack' (the ONLY store left here that still sells electronic parts) are 'Xicon' branded. I have seen some nichicon in their parts boxes too.

That means that they are junk. IMO, any half decent cap should do OK in the 5vsb.

All 8mm Teapo capacitors are bad? No wonder c_hegge thinks they're junk. If that's the case, I regret voting them average.

But... I've never had an 8mm Teapo fail. Granted, they were SC and were in very well designed Hipros but they even survived a partially seized ADDA sleeve bearing fan.... so they're all bad? Or is it only select bad batches, or a certain date code? And I don't think Teapo capacitors can handle being without a fan ('soft-off').

I rated them average because they don't fail as quickly as fuhjyyus! The second reason is because they aren't a top of the line manufacturer.

They are not all bad, but I do see them fail a lot more often than the bigger ones. And those 8 mm Teapos I mentioned that bulged by themselves on that printer board - those were SC series. In the HP DC5000 SFF computers, the 8 mm ones are also mostly SC with sometimes 2 SZ on the RAM. The SZ on the RAM fail very very often.

He posted images in his post, in the power supply pictorial thread of current, back in June. Those heatsinks really aren't impressive and neither is the fan that was "cooling" the PSU (D80SM-12, from Yate Loon, a sleeve bearing fan only rated at 2200RPM/27CFM, and it was probably running at half speed because it was temperature controlled... by Heihachi's own admission, in the post in question, he said the fan was not spinning too fast). I am not surprised those Teapos failed after being used 24/7 from 2005 to 2012. Not only that, but some of the Teapos that did bloat are awfully close to coils from what I see in the images, so they probably didn't get great airflow either. He also made of note that some resistors were very hot in the operation of the PSU, that didn't help either.

I'm not defending Teapo. I know their 8mm capacitors are horrible. But it seems that they're otherwise okay assuming they're not pushed far.

Kinda off-topic but maybe THAT's what the new HDDs can't take...

I care how much abuse hardware can take before it fails. I know it isn't meant to be abused and that those conditions aren't really representative of typical use, but it does happen, so don't call it meaningless. One HDD may run for years after an impact that immediately destroys another HDD. Then again, some HDDs are tougher than others. It doesn't help if the HDD is running, but even then bumping the HDD does not guarantee failure. Of course I'm not recommending you to throw HDDs across the room, but you get the point.

I just bought a Seasonic-made 620W that was cheapened for Antec by replacing the Japanese caps with Teapos.

In my old SmartPower Antecs, the Koshins and Teapos failed before the Fuhjyyus,

Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
                                            power on.

                                            Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
                                            switching supply area).
                                            (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
                                            than 6.3 V.)

hey all, iv got my favourite battery charger here which iv had for many years probably 15 years now or maybe even more. it still works good but thought id open it up to clean the dust out of it, lots of dust inside but now its clean and noticed 4 capacitors inside it and wondered if i should replace them.
                                            it has inside:
                                            2 x 47uf 16v caps 105c branded as Su'scon (lol sounds sus to me)
                                            2 x 470uf 16v LZ105c branded as G.Luxon

not heard of these brands are they any good?

iv attached photos of the charger and the board inside for an idea on the type of...

Sparkle Power Int. LTD. FPS400-60GN (REV 1) – recapping (with cap list)

As mentioned in the build quality pictorial thread for this PSU, I got a Sparkle Power / SPI FPS400-60GN for recapping. The unit had only one failed cap: a Teapo SC 16V, 3300 uF on the 12V rail. All other output caps were okay. But since pretty much every cap in this PSU was a Teapo (and SC series for the output rails), and since the owner requested a full recap, that’s what I did.

Here is a full list of the electrolytic capacitors found in this PSU (minus the big input-side primaries):
                                            * 3.3V rail [capacitors C24 & C25]: 2x Teapo SC, 10V, 6800 uF, 12.5 x 40 mm ^^...

I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

I have a 2007-era Panasonic VHS combo that is full of of Elna RJG capacitors. I am trying to test the capacitors to diagnose the machine and then select replacement capacitors but I can not find any datasheets for them. I did find a Elna catalogue from 2007-2008 but there is no mention of this capacitor series. Where these specially made for Panasonic and so not made available to the public? Any ideas what to find out what the ESR values should be without the datasheets? They are all between 10V and 50V and 47uF and 1800uF. None are leaking or bulged but I know that they need to be tested to be...
