Sony KDL-40EX400 turn on for a few seconds then shuts down when the Sony Logo appears on the screen. It does this 3 times then I get a red light flashing 6 times. I replaced the inverter board with one that I purchased from Payless components and it still shuts down. I'm getting the 24 volts and none of the caps are bloated. I replaced the 24 volt caps just in case but it still shuts down. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

I just got this model with the same problem and found a post online from a guy that did firmware update and it fixed his tv.
Sony has firmware update for this model, I just updated my tv and so far it has run fine 10 minutes.
I had trouble getting update started so I:
Plugged in
Turned on
Turned off ass soon as I heard startup chime(before error)
Plug in usb drive with update pkg.
Turn on
You should see green led then it switches to red and flashing amber.
Update in process
Wait about 10 min
When I went back the backlights were on
Turn off
Turn on again if you need to program channels
Service manual leads you to believe its a bad panel or inverter board -

12 hrs running, several restarts and everything is fine.
I would get bl_error of 3.3 or 3.7vdc before update
Error is gone now.Comment

Firmware update worked for me aswell on this model. TV would come on and shut down 3x before giving a 6 blink code.Comment

i just bought this tv this evening for $30.00 and guy said power board.. i did firmware update and like others it turned right on.. I love this forumComment

Hi, i have the same problem with a KDL40EX400 TV.
Nothing happens when i plug in the USB drive with the update file (fat-32 formatted), it keeps with the same boot sequence. (logo, turns off 3 times and then 6 red blinking lights)
Too bad, because reading this post kept my hopes up!

Just tried this after ordering and replacing backlight inverter per Sony troubleshooting guide still had the same problem. Would come on shut down 3 times and get the 6x blink code. Downloaded the firmware update fixed the problem. Thank you for the post.Comment

Hello there,
I had this problem back in June 2017, Tv tried to turn on for 3 times showing the sony logo for a sec and cut off, then the 6 blinks. I replaced the main board (purchased from SJ) everything worked until now. Tv is doing same thing again.
Do you guys believe that main board broke or maybe there is a defective lamp causing and error code on main board and stopping tv from operating normally.
Ay suggestions?

Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.
Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue before I give up on this TV.
In short, I replaced the T-CON board due to an error code indicating that was the problem, after which it flashed a green and orange LED meaning software update required. I cannot get the tv to do the required update via USB, so I am stuck.

Hi guys I have a SONY BDV-E4100 blu ray player that was powered off during an update, I have read the sony guide and it says press function till it displays BD on the screen but its not changing, it only says TV on the internal display and no output to the TV screen at all. I also noticed that when eject is pressed the drive ejects but wont go back in, even when pushed. Can this be re flashed any way? -
So I have this Sony VJF152C11N ( Board Number : DA0HKDMB6D0 ) which came to me with no charging issue. The Charging IC was getting hot so replaced it.
ISL88732 replaced with ISL88731 and also the lower mosfet PQ59 ( NTTFS4C10NTAG ) with a similar N channel mosfet. Now the Charging is fine with 15.7 on BAT+ line but the new problem is that laptop boots till sony logo and then shuts down when battery is connected ( With or without AC adapter )
What could be causing this is a non compatible IC or FET or poor soldering or some kind of shorting?
