Westinghouse WD55UDR101 bad picture goes black after a few minutes

TV will come on for a minute or so then go black, I have 12v coming into the tcon but the only test pads with voltage when this happens are 3.3v and 1.8v points, any of the points with higher voltage show 0 or close.

When the tv is 'working' the voltages are reading higher than the points specify on pads with voltage higher than 3.3v. One point VSS2 should have been 11.6 when its 13.17v. The dc-dc converter pictured is fluctuating between 7-13v on the high side and a steady 1.18 on the low side.

I'm looking for a firmware update to try first the board number is CV6488H-A.There should be a few brands with this board I know Seiki is one.

If it has a tcon and you disconnect one ribbon cable going to the panel board do you have a clear half picture.
It looks like you may well have a side tab issue problem seeing the multiple pictures being displayed.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I can only disconnect one side since the tcon is part of the screen on this model. It runs one side of the screen somewhat happily but the voltages still aren't stable. I've got it narrowed down to the driver ic, any voltages measured past that are wonky and the voltage to the ic is steady.

I've ordered a new ic and a universal boost board, one way or another I'll fix it. Ignore the diode in the ic pic, I replaced it because it tested bad in circuit but was good once I measured it off the board.

Check for short circuit capacitors around the area you say the voltages are wonky.

I'm getting a short on all 4 of these capacitors only one way though.

With the tv on and the picture working they all read 1.17v I think it should be 3.3v. The 6R8 below the capacitors is hot to the touch.

Now after having the tv unplugged for a while the 4 caps aren't shorting, I fire it up for a minute and I tested immediately after shutting the tv off and they're shorting.

Turns out they would read as shorted with the tv on standby but not with it unplugged.

It's got separate power main and tcon. The tcon is part of the screen like most chinese tvs. The main board is cv6488h-a

LOL.. so its all in one boards ( one board and panel ).. label cv6488h-a are nothings to me if you were not able to upload focused high resolution photo on the boards.

No , it's not an AIO board.

I get 38mV on standby, 4.53V with tv on and screen working. I reseated the con202 and con201 connectors on the power board side and so far the tv is working but the tcon seems to be going between perfect picture and ghosting.

So I reseated the connectors on the main board side then the tv wouldn't come out of standby. I moved the connector pictured and this wire comes out along with another I secured them back into the connector but I might solder the wires directly to the board.

So the tv stays on now and the tcon is still a problem. It will start ghosting when I change channels but it stop after 10-15 seconds.

i dont think you have to worry on the t-con. focus on the mainboards .. try log in service menu to find option for hard reset the eeprom.

If you can, go into settings and turn the backlights NOT brightness down, see if the "ghosting"/double image goes away or lessens, also turn any screen enhancements that might be on off, in settings, ambient sensors shit like that if equipped.

I hope you found this tv at the curb or such, seems like mostly bad reviews:

While you're at it, take the connector pictured in post #13 off both boards and check each wire from end to end for continuity, be careful not to stretch out the terminals with meter probe ends and check for burnt or discoloration of the connector ends.

Can you get into the service menu with a universal remote? Do you know the procedure the one I used says to hold vol- and input then press power. The tv won't do anything if I use the physical power button while holding those and it just turns on normally if i use the remote.

I turned them down to 50, no difference.

I removed the connector and soldered the wires directly to the board and glued them. There was no signs of burning or heat, the connectors are so cheap the terminals fall out of them and are loose even when they're properly assembled.

I found these 2 capacitors to be shorted, but most interesting I found this solder blob on the board that I'm 99% sure didnt come from me.

Ok, now you're getting somewhere, straighten out that blob, then see if the caps still read short, if still short remove one and test it, then test the other one while it's still on the board, one bad cap can make the others read short.
