Which of the 2 chips did you remove? If you look at the front of the TV, the left or the right one?

Thanks for THE ADVISE!!!

Just thought I would share the details of the successful repair. I took the TV today to a local service facility. The guy told me that the issue with the TV is a very rare one. Still, maybe it helps someone.

What did NOT fix the issue
          • Replace the AS15 chip on the tcon board
          • Swapping the full tcon board (or any other board) with another one
          • Replacing cables

So now, let's skip to the chase: what DID FIX it. Both of the aforementioned "long boards" had an operational amplifier on them each (looks just another IC to me, see images). One of them turned out to be bad. The guy simply unsoldered it from the board and the TV immediately started to work perfectly.

I was shocked to see how removing something and not putting it back can solve things, but the guy said that actually there's quite a few things he could remove from the TV set and it would still operate perfectly.

He removed the chip on a hunch btw, so there were no measurements that could have indicated that it was bad. He just tried and bingo!

          Hope this helps someone.

Well turn it on and feel them, guess I would remove the hottest one.

Hi, I have the same symptoms on my Samsung LE46B650

I think aczelkri may have answered this in their reply already, but I will ask anyway:

Is there a way to diagnose if the problem is with the AS15 gamma chip on the T-Con board OR if its a problem with one of the chips on the thin Column driver board?

Also, How do you get access to the column driver board to desolder the other chip as your TV service person did? I've got the back off mine now, with Tcon board exposed, but the column driver board appears to be sandwidched between two pieces of sheet metal from the frame.

                TIA

Some tvs are a lot harder to get to the driver boards, you probably have one more like this one, where he needed to take off the metal frame to get access: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO2gHBJCvH0

Note: I don't recommend removing the panel with that particular technique, very easy to break it, specially the bigger ones. Just showing the teardown to the driver boards.

sarch for the messages of tom66 and the word as15, then test the vgma testpoints with the panel disconnected..

Thanks for the tip, that's very helpful. Shame I have to take a lot more apart, I was hoping these would be fairly easy to access and check at the same time as the T-Con board.

Indeed most of the newer ones are much easier to access but those older ccfl tvs are made very well and have in my opinion much less trouble, also I like the picture quality much better than any edge lit led backlit tv I have seen.

I've read up on testing the AS15 chip. I think it's probably not necessary as I did the 'put your finger on it while the TV is turned on' test and it gets bloody hot after a few seconds.

.... but to be doubly sure I'm going to go ahead and measure the voltages as well. I've found the test pads next to the AS15-U chip, but my question is: Should I have all the numbers from 1-22? My pads start at one, two, then jump up in twos to 10, then 11, 12, 13. then up in twos again and ends on VG22.

So in total the numbers go from VG1 to VG22 but there are only 14 pads. Is that normal? Can I still use the spreadsheet with these values?

Well I don't have all the numbers but I think that's pretty conclusive.

                                Looks like it's soldering time

I have read this thread and understood it, going from info. of post #16, it's my understanding that the problem is one of the components on the panel driver boards. So I would not be surprised if the as-15 chip replacement did not work.

I think there's a few members here that do not bother to read the entire thread, hence jumping to conclusions. Not saying that the as-15 isn't bad, just that there is another possibility as explained in earlier posts.
