I have this apex ld4088, the backlights will run for about 60 seconds and shut down, when they are working there is a slight buzz from inverter board. Power board is out putting the proper voltage. Standby 5v and the 24v to back light inverter board. 24v still present at plug on inverter when back lights quit. Thanks Michael

Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
One of the lamps or transformers on the inverter board may be failing. You need to look very carefully when the backlights are on to see if you have a dimmer line across the screen where a tube may be failing.
Do you still have an image on the screen when backlights fail if you shine a light on the screen and look carefully.Last edited by dick_barton; 09-29-2020, 04:48 AM.Willing to help but I'm no expert. -
Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
The set uses fluorescent tubes not leds and run at >1KVolts via the transformers on the inverter boardWilling to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Are the Inverter board mounting screws missing?
Inspect the Inverter transformers as suggested, also unplug the inverter board from the socket and inspect the inverter board fingers and the sockets.Never stop learning

Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
Ok I took the screws out to remove cover. Is there a way to check the output going to each tube? I looked that board over and didn't see anything that looked burnt. I don't have the screen off, is there anything else I can test before doing that? ThanksComment

Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
Can you check the winding resistance of each of the inverter transformers and compare them to each other.
You said the set powers up briefly so are you able to see if there is a lighter band across the screen where one of the tubes may be failing?Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
There appears to be 4 solder points on each transformer.
If you label them 1 to 4 then test
Transformer 1
Pin 1 - 2
Pin 1 -3
Pin 1 - 4
then
Pin 2 - 3
Pin 2 - 4
then
Pin 3 - 4
Transformer 2
.
.
.
And note the resistance carefully for each test and for each transformer 1 to 10.
It would also be worth looking on the underside of the board to see if there is any sign of overheating. Board tends to brown.Last edited by dick_barton; 10-01-2020, 01:02 PM.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
Can you recheck some of your readings and were they ohms, Kohms or Megohms?
The transformers usually have a minimum of two windings on them so if one set of windings were labelled 1 and 2 and the other winding was 3 and 4 then you would expect a resistance reading of eg ohms for one set of windings and maybe 10's if not 100's of ohm for the second set of windingsLast edited by dick_barton; 10-03-2020, 04:21 AM.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: Apex LD 4088 backlight shut down
I'll assume that Pins 1 - 3 where it changes half way down is a typo.
The ony odd reading is T4, Pins 1 -3 @ 0.02 which could be an error in the reading but worth rechecking.
Can you also recheck Pins 2- 4 of each transformer with your meter set to ohms and post back the results.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

by triplefourthis tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even... -
by DanPokaI bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...-

by Comp_ProHello all,
Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.
Tests performed:
There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
Fuse F8400 ok
Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure... -
by jimbofzHi this oldie had no backlight .after replacing caps on 24v rail ,
still no b/l this uses inverter type:1315 B1-16A,
im sure ive come across the same inverter in a samsung possibly le32r88bd ?
all t/x in board test ok ,so i fitted 15k and led to pin 4 of oz964gn ic
this allows protect to be temporary overridden.
b/l now comes on
but the left hand side of pic is gradually darker than the right side
i have the cct for the tv

i opened it up to inspect the ccfl tubes

by cheebsterHello, got an iPad Pro A2378 12.9 5th gen with no backlight. Got another test unit without screen, tested the screen, still no backlight with the test unit.
Figured out the backlight on the screen was bad, ordred a new backlight from mobilesentrix, *carefully replaced it* without damaging the lcd, oh well.
Final result, issue is still there, the screen has no back lights. So i'm back to square one, with 3 hours less and 100$ out, issue still on the screen.
The panel is still ok, i can see the apple in the middle of the screen when it kicks in, just no backlight.
