Vizio M3D550SR won't turn on unless....

This has been an interesting project. It was given to me DOA with unknown problem. I've diagnosed it down to the dimmer and BL_On or the on/off. I've uploaded a picture of the main board with arrows to the parts I've replaced on the main board. The picture of the power supply is included for reference.

Here's what it's doing at this point since it's no longer DOA. I can do a continuity test to ground on the dimmer and BL-On connectors, and the TV will require a hard reset (holding power button down on TV for 30 seconds) to come on. When it comes on, you can do anything you want, it can be on for as long as you want. But when you turn it off, if you unplug it, you have to do the above mentioned hard reset to get it started again, after the continuity test each time.

That all makes no sense to me either. But I thought maybe someone had run across a similar problem. If so, can you point me in the next direction to look? The voltages on the three LDO's in the picture are within specs.

Re: Vizio M3D550SR won't turn on unless....

This is a picture of the TV working today. I left it unplugged overnight and I had to do the dimmer on/off drain mentioned above to get it going again this morning.

Another symptom I discovered last night is, when you turn the TV off the screen will go black, then after about a minute the screen lights up again, but with no picture or anything. When you hit the power button, the LED's dim down to almost out, and it sits there like that until you turn it back on. Almost like a sleep mode, instead of completely shutting down. Is this normal for this model?

I think not, try a factory reset then a firmware update if the first doesn't work, might not fix it but it shouldn't hurt any.

Thanks nomoresonys, I did a factory reset, but haven't done a firmware update. That might do the trick. Thanks again!

VIZIO M65-C1 Does Not Turn On
          by Mulp
          Hi All,

I am having an issue with my Vizio M65-C1 where it does not turn on. When I plug it in the stand by light on bottom left of screen turns on (white) then fades away. If I press the power button it turn back on and then fades until it is super dim.

When I remove cover, there are no illuminated leds on the main board, I've seen others with a red/blue led that turns on.

I've done some research and what is interesting is my voltages all seem slightly different from other people. For example +5/3.5v is 3.48V when on which is different from others on here....

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
          by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

Vizio m65-c1 picture flashing on and off on the screen
          by maricm
          HI all,
hope someone point to the possible issue before I start buying replacement parts.
Tv starts normal and responds to remote fine, PSU voltages mesured fine 19v was 18.9V under load and 19V with main board disconnected.
Backlight stays on all the time,
          Sound works fine.
screen keeps changing form black to full picture in about 1sec intervals.
Picture looks fine with no visible artifacts.
I have disconnected backlights and flashlight test confirmed that picture is still doing the same.

VIZIO E70-E3 Half picture with half TCON
          by Fly_Among_Stars
          Hi,
          I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
          Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...
