Tried with just the .fwu, USB formatted to FAT32, exactly according to the instructions that came with the software download. Still the exact same result.
After connecting it to power, I've tried using the on/off button on the back panel and the TV stays on. As part of the FW upgrade is holding down the Vol- button. Is it possible all four buttons are just not properly connecting?
Perhaps have a quick look at this recent post
'LG 42LV355T Blue screen No picture', sound like your problem?
This is way more in-depth. What are the differences between the LG's symptoms and the video I originally posted?
I'll have a go with my multi at recreating some measurements, thanks again.
With any luck I'll be able to get as specific a diagnosis as yours!
Post #1: "turns on and displays the Red Toshiba logo"
Please clarify. Are you saying that you see Toshiba logo on the screen, meaning it shows video for seconds and then goes blue screen?

This^. Basically when I plug it in, the light turns green, logo splash occurs normally, followed by a couple of seconds of black, then blue indefinitely.
The four buttons on the back panel haven't yielded any results or response. The Vol- button is used for the FW upgrade but that process didn't work. The source/menu button hasn't had any effect, and even the power off button doesn't do anything once the TV is on.
