Hey folks, I originally posted this as an E701, which I know is the same generation as this 601, but I'm still having issues, and I can't find the place for the "fix". Here's a link to my original

The set suffered a lightning strike a year or so back. It fried the HDMI ports, but the set still worked through other inputs, until 6 or 8 weeks ago, when the picture died. I replaced the main board, and then the tcon, and got a picture, although it seemed "out of phase", like the color was off. In reading about the 701 there's a thread

that deals with peeling the plastic frame back, disconnecting a 3/4" cable to the side boards (for testing purposes), and potentially peeling the tabs off the panel on one side or the other.
The issue I'm having is I'm not finding the 3/4" cable, or the tabs on the sides. I've torn the tv down to the metal framework around the screen, and pulled the right side metal off, but the tabs just aren't there. Here are a few pics. Where should I be looking for the cable and tabs to be able to test this?

you are looking on the "WRONG SIDE" .. :-). The tabs can only be seen from the front.

Just took another look. I pulled tabs on an older Samsung several years ago (first one by accident, then the rest to even things up). These are a bit narrower, so I wasn't seeing them. I'm still not seeing the 3/4 cable. I'd rather not go pulling tabs on one side or the other without determining the "guilty" side.

it is likely that the 60's dont have a corner cable because there are no side boards. the connections that drive the side tabs are made thru the panel via the tabs at the end of the bottom edge boards and each side. The next best way to doing some "isolation testing" is to disconnect the flex ribbons that connect the edge boards at the bottom... assuming that the bottom edge boards are "two per side" (again like the 70's). Those flex ribbons are unclampable much like the tcon to panel cables so they can be disconnected without causing any issues and can then be reconnected... ie. they are NOT TABS.

Yes, one cable on each side that comes out of the tcon, then two more ribbons on each side to the bottom boards. Bear with me, please. Do I pick a side and disconnect both ribbon cables on one side, then check the tv? Or just one at a time on each side?

basically the "ribbon" in the picture is a "U type cable". By disconnecting it (either end), you are isolating "half of the half" panel... in essence, one quarter of the panel (the outer section will no longer be "driven"). What this does, is removes the section of the board that connects and "pushes" signal up to the side of the panel via the last tab but still drives at least part of the half so the tcon is tested "better"... so if there is an issue, you might see something different in the display, depending.... maybe.
Go from there.

I did not. The tv worked when I powered up, and the next time, no picture again (fried the new tcon). I'll get busy on it again tonight and try to keep folks posted on progress.
