    RCA LED65G55R120Q No Backlight

hello, I picked this TV up for free and started to diagnose it. I assume either a main board issue or shorted LED's. When I power it on, my voltages come up correctly and the LED's light for a split second. Then the entire system shuts down. No voltage anywhere. I assume shorted LED's forcing the PSU into protect so I disconnected the LED connector, powered on again, and the same issue occurred. Voltages came up for a second and then everything shut down. Any ideas?

Try disconnect powerboard from mainboard, turn it on see if backlight come on and stay on, always good practice to have tv unplugged from wall outlet before unplug any connector then plug tv in and try.

So what DC Voltages do you have on the control pins of the power supply board connector CN2: ADJ, BK, and PS?
What Voltages do you have on the LED connector pins with LED connector in place? You need to leave the probe on each pin and then Turn on the TV to see how high it goes up to then wait 5 seconds to see how low it goes down to, do that on each pin of the LED connector, black probe on the chassis GND, you have two LED (+) and two LED (-) so 4 tests total.

Voltage checks are a must as budm has indicated. A year ago I had set from friend of friend with similar problem except logo displayed. Power board and LEDs checked out OK by forcing them on. That left me with likely eeprom corrupted on main board. That set 65" Polaroid similar to RCA was recently given to me and I will first be trying freeze spray on the eeprom.

Sorry for the delay. I'm in WI and its been a rough week! Finally got voltages for you.

              PS-5Vs: 5.1v always

ADJ-BK: 1.6v when turned on, drops to 0

5V+5V: 4.9v once powered on, then drops to 0

              LED Connector (left to right)
+: 285V drops to 0 in five seconds
              -: no reading

              +: 135V drops to 0 in 5 seconds
              -: no reading

This is the typical Backlight failure issue.

The higher voltage string is showing the same symptom. By displaying 0V on the both (-) pins say the Backlights are faulty and if you want to fix it then you would have to open up the Panel and test the Backlight Strings.

You count the pins wrong for the connector CN2. It has 18 pins total. The expose pins you see from the top side of the board are ODD number pins, the even number pin you will have probe from the bottom side of the board or via the wire entrance side of the connector.
Pin name assignment for example: Pin 17 is ADJ (DIM control), Pin 18 is BK (BL-ON).
                      1) So to troubleshoot the problem we will need correct data first.
                      2) I need the pictures of the bottom side of the power supply board to see if the two LED strings are connected in series or not.
This looks to be the same as your board:

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

                          by hollox123
Hello, I have an "ASUS ROG Strix G713QR" laptop, and for approx. 3 months I have the following problems:

                          1. Laptop keyboard doesn't work
                          2. The backlight on the laptop keyboard doesn't work
                          3. The x2 side LEDs (red) on the laptop don't work

The power button works, the touchpad works, and all the USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc. ports work.

I already tried to reinstall all the drivers and reinstall Windows. So I don't know what to try anymore that is software-related.

But I am strongly aiming that it is somehow a BIOS-related problem,...

I have a Panasonic LED TV TC-40A420U. The TV was given to me as an attempt to fix or throw out. I replaced the Backlight LEDs and now the screen lights up, but there is no image/display. If I play with the up/down buttons I can get the display to change from black to garbled. I can't get sound from HDMI but not sure of what input is selected. I have no remote control. When I connect a laptop to the HDMI ports it recognizes a Panasonic TV for display and sound output but I can't see or hear anything through the TV. This makes me think the mainboard is OK, but not sure if mainboard can...

                          by lmcancu
Hi I am having an issue with the LED backlight of this TV. I can see the picture with a flash light, so I determined it was a backlight issue.

Initially, after opening it I found 2 shorted and 1 open LED on 2 strips (total of 4). I removed the LEDs and shorted the pads together to verify if the backlight would work.

Testing it, I found the backlight turned on and I measured 54V when TV was in standby (off), and 100v when TV was turned on. The 4 strips each contain 9 LEDs, so 36 in all minus 3.

Instead of putting it back together I decided to replace...

                          Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                          I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...
