    Sharp LC-60EQ10U Dark Screen

Hello everyone. Glad to be a new member and looking forward to learning more.

I have this Sharp 60" TV. It powers on and the screen is dark. You can see the images moving so is the backlight the issue? Where do I start?

    Thanks

    Jess

Sounds like the backlights are not coming on. Have you removed the back yet?

The people on the board here need pictures of the back of the TV with all boards installed so we can see the layout and pictures of each individual board in case we have to help trace circuits. Please be sure they are clear and well-focused.

After posting the pictures I also recommend:

At the top of the "Troubleshooting TV's and Video Sources" page are items marked "Sticky". Please take the time to read these before attempting any troubleshooting on your own. Contained in these "Stickys" are basic information that will help you learn how to troubleshoot safely and excellent information from highly knowledgeable and professional electronics technicians who put those there to help you know how to get started.

Be patient, people in here have lives they live outside of the forum but are truly dedicated to helping people with good information when they can. Troubleshooting through a forum isn't the fastest way to go, but if you have never troubleshot a TV this is the place to glean good information from helpful, patient people. Trust me, they had to be patient when I showed up!

When troubleshooting with a meter, BE PRECISE, FOCUS on the job in front of you and BE CAREFUL! There is 400V plus inside the TV and that will kill you. Another thing you can trust me on....imprecise or sloppy motions while measuring voltages will lead to the destruction of other components. I have stories.............

Read this thread to see how to check the Voltages at the LED connector and also how to check and see if the backlights will come on or not.

Jess, your description of the fault is imprecise, post a picture of the defect, or if the image is completely black from a distance of 1m or in a dark room then continue to troubleshoot backlight.

This is a definite backlight issue. The difficulty here is really handling the thin glass screen They break easily if handled badly. You would need vacuum cups to pick up the fragile glass screen.

these pictures don't align with your first post about "dark picture" as these clearly show the menu along with "picture static" (no input). Please explain. Further, based on the distortion along the top left side of the menu, it would appear that you have a panel problem but it is difficult to say for sure without a proper input signal and explanation.

if you have a big box full of things put it behind the tv as a stand and do some better pictures, anyway it seems to me the common panel fault that is fixable with piece of adhesive tape, second detach one at a time the lvds ribbons that outputs from the tcon and see with which one the half picture is perfect.

Ok I will get those. Budwich, The way I described the issue was the way it was when I got the TV. After taking the back panel off, tipping it up and starting it, this is what it looked like. Totally different I agree. I will get my wife to hold it up for better pics.

:-( no problem.... but that does sound good. As suggested, likely a panel issue but potentially it can be save by a couple of "techiniques"... but it really depends on you providing good pictures of the display with a good knowable picture (test signal).

I found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display...

Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

                                          Another TV topic!!
I got this sharp TV that when I first plugged it in it showed the sharp logo and then went to the input screen. This was about 30 seconds and then it showed white screen. Now I can't see anything but white screen. This has a separate TCON and Main.

The TCON is getting 12V and several parts are as well but the VGH line is only .5Volts which I thought is totally incorrect.

Am I on the correct assumption that the TCON is bad somehow if I'm only getting that voltage or is there something else I should check?...

I have a older eddy current tester made by Olympus that uses interchangeable TFT-LCD screens. I have two devices that each take the same removable screens. One is an Olympus NORTEC 200D+ and the other is an Olympus SONIC 1200M EMI. I have searched the internet high and low for service manuals for these units with no luck. Both these units were used extensively by the US military for NDT on airplanes. The detachable screen plugs into the base unit via a weird non standard VGA connector. Buttons on the removable display are used to power the units on. When the power button is pressed the unit makes...
