Hi thanks for sticking with me. The caps @ c101-103 are open. The standby cap next to D123 is showing 1075ohms but only when I put the negative lead of the meter on the positive of the capacitor and positve of the meter on the negative. If I connect positive to positive and neg to neg then I get open circuit. Does this all look good if so I will try to source a fuse today.

I’d recon with a bad main board too. However, first you need to fix that PSU.

Cheers guys, will go and get a fuse and report back. Someone else locally had the same issue with a power spike and it took out everything that was connected to the TV as well. However all the peripheral devices that were connected to this survived.

          It's alive :-)

My local electronics store is closed (Maplins same store as what Tandy used to be in the USA). Looked up local TV repair guys, found a local one that was only a short walk and asked if he would sell me a fuse. Went round and picked it up for £2 and all working. Havent tried TV tuner but HDMI works, so attached my android streaming box and all good. Do get some flashing of the standby light when I switch it on (not sure if this is normal dont think it used to do that) maybe it is seeing a problem with the tv tuner anyone know the error sequence on these?

Thanks to everyone here for the advice of checking the various parts so I was confident that the fuse I knew had gone was perhaps the only issue.

Some tv's will flash the stby led after the power is pressed while it is initializing and waiting for backlights to come on, likely happened before and you did'nt notice.
            good to here its fixed.

A close lightning strike with the tuner connected to an outside antenna likely took out the tuner module. it usually sees micro volts of signal not giga volts from a lightning strike

I think you got very lucky to only lose a fuse and the tuner. Usually any TV that I get that’s got hit by lightning, I have to replace the main board, because the main ic got damaged.

The house next door cannot be lived in due to the damage took over 3 hours to put the fire out they have been told may not even spend Christmas in there! So double tripple lucky. Roof top aerial got vaporised I think as that is nowhere to be seen the downlead was just a frazzled section of plastic blown off the wall.

HP EliteBook 840 G6 – no power after lightning strike
                      by Bardou Kari
                      Hi,
I’m trying to fix an HP EliteBook 840 G6 that stopped working after a lightning storm.

                      – Charger is OK and 19V is present at the motherboard.
                      – No charging LED, no fan, no reaction.
                      – I don’t see any 3.3V or 5V near the coils.
                      – Battery is unplugged.
                      – I’m new to board repair but can use a multimeter.

I added a clear photo of the board.
Any idea where to start or what to check next?
Thanks a lot for your help!...

Panasonic TH-50PX80 killed by lightning strike, help me save her!
                      by SluggerB
Yes it's a 17 year old Panasonic plasma!

I was watching TV when there was a huge lighting strike nearby my house that shook the house. When that happened, the picture on the TV froze and the TV wouldn't turn off except by pulling the power cable. Now if you plug in the TV, it seems to turn on (it makes the turn on "clikcs" it always does, the red power light comes on but there is no picture, although I can see the back light around the edges. And the TV doesn't respond to the power button on the remote to turn off, and doesn't respond to the manual power button on the front...

A funny fuse story – Lumix LX100 II
                      by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
                      The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

Lightning Strike: 55" TV dead: is display panel OK?
                      by MrCreosote
                      THE LIGHTNING:
This was a very close strike, blew a 15 amp breaker for all ceiling lights in home AND could smell ozone for a few minutes after strike.

Very close and probably a very strong EMP.

                      THE TV:
No standby LED. Some voltage from PSB (not totally dead).

But found a kit of ALL 4 circuit boards for $55.

At first thought, this will fix my TV.

But then lightning has the ability to totally fry semiconductors. Which would include any or all of the PCBs. However, the display is one big semiconductor and given...

advices for repairing Sony Bravia 32EX600 after lightning strike
                      by pbig
                      hi everyone,
my parents in law have seen their Bravia Sony LED 32EX600 TV set stop after a lightning strike. After being plugged to mains, it shows nothing no power LED on bottom left shines.
On the power PCB (GE3b, attached pic), I chacked the fuses and the only roasted one is R6536 : 0.47 ohms, 1/2W. After replacing it, I made some voltage measurement with ref to the chassis :
                      - the 450V/150uF capacitor voltage when plugged is normal at 394V
                      - from connector CN6150 (15 poles)
STBY normal 3.3V -> I shunted it to 3 (POWER ON) and 11 (BL ON) and unplugged...
